Senator [Hillary Rodham Clinton] wants pre-K for all 4-year-olds

WASHINGTON (AP) - Hillary Rodham Clinton is ready to propose a new federal plan that would offer high-quality preschool to every 4-year-old in America.

The Democratic presidential candidate says the universal Pre-K plan would cost about ten billion dollars. Speaking on NBC's "Today Show," she said evidence shows such preschool programs save money in the long run -- and that students have fewer behavioral problems and stay in school longer.

The New York senator says she'd pay for universal preschool by closing tax loopholes and eliminating Bush administration programs she disagrees with. The proposal would give federal funds to states that establish a plan for making voluntary pre-kindergarten services available for all.

She's presenting the proposal today at a Miami Beach elementary school.

Oh-yeah, that's the ticket. Start them earlier because we all know that's the reason kids can't read or write. They just need a couple more years with the children to teach them. It's not the education system

My kids both learned to read at age 4 in a total of 10 hours --twenty minutes a day for four weeks.

Even though neither my wife nor I have degrees in education, we took a stab at it.

"A", "aaaahhh."

"T", "tuh."

"aaahh-tuh." "At!"

We covered "at," "ax," and "as" the first day. A month later they were reading Dr. Seuss books.

Yeah, more time and money, that will fix the problem.

I doubt that is a true stat on behavior. We usually see more behavior problems out of kids separated from their mothers early and placed in daycare centers while they work than kids who stay at home with their mothers at 4 yeaars old.

You can put lipstick on her mandatory "federal" plan, but the pig is still called communism.

I guess they will get those “high quality workers” from the same place they get “high quality” airport screeners now that they are “federal” employees!

No, it won't fix the problem. Not as long as it is administered by the current educational system! What you said, is the key to ANY child in America learning to read or write. Parents and grandparents have to teach them, because the current public education system is broken! Be sure to teach your kids how to do simple arithmetic too. I'm amazed at how little kids do learn in this public school system.

I googled “give me your four year olds”, hafing heard the quote somewhere, and ran with it.

It would be no surprise if it was not accurate, google being google.

We live in an upper middle class area in GA, and my SIL has already fallen for this nonsense. Our state already provides voluntary free pre-k for 4 year olds, and she is on two waiting lists to get my 3 year old nephew (who will turn 4 on 8/31, but school will begin in early August) into the program, so he can get a head start on all the other toddlers. He will be there from 7-2 every day, instead of at home playing with his mom and his little brother, but wow, he’ll be SMART! Sigh.

Just take them at birth, raise them in State nurseries; they can update the methods described in “Brave New World”, and we can all live in dormitories.

Problem(s) solved.

Now I wonder which programs those would be?

Neat graphic! I would laugh if it weren’t so very true.
