The Immigration Debacle

The almost-stealth immigration bill light-speeding its way through Congress represents all that is wrong with politics and an elitist political class that is too far removed from its constituencies.

There is so much wrong with this bill procedurally, and substantively, that one can barely scratch the surface in a short column, but I'll recapitulate some of the most egregious concerns and share a few pet peeves.

First, we are bogged down in a semantic debate over whether the bill constitutes "amnesty." Open-borders apologists take umbrage at the term, saying the bill does not constitute amnesty because illegal immigrants will be punished, never mind how inconsequentially.

But I would argue that those insisting it is amnesty are, in a sense, understating their case. In certain respects it's worse than amnesty. Not only will criminal violators of the immigration laws receive a mere wrist-slap for their infractions; they will be rewarded for them.

David's brother has said this bill is about the dismantling of the Republican Party and the conservative movement. The Democrats will flood the country with millions of new Democrat voters. As for the RINOs? They like their eternal place in the minority.

Don't let this absurd piece of garbage pass. Write, call, email, or fax your representatives, from local offices to the office of El Presidente... and DO NOT STOP. Keep on building the tidal wave that we need to KILL THIS BILL!

This is the ultimate distruction of America. They are doing away with the middle class. Also, I read a judge for the Farmer’s Branch unanimous vote of the people said only the federal government can say whether an illegal is illegal.

That is a bunch of bull. Why are we depending on what these courts say? We should declare his ruling null and void since the people have already spoken. Nothing less. And the judge should be held criminally responsible.

Wouldn’t it be great if we could find some lawyers willing to take on these idiots so that they would be put in jail or deported as they are no longer Americans. It’s time for us to do something. If we are going to be forced to spend our money; it should be for something good or we could simply without our money. After all it is their lifeblood. With no money; they have nothing.

It doesn’t matter to our political class one bit if there’s a republican or democrat party. They can still hold the same power under whatever name they wish.

In the end it won’t matter. In 20 or 30 years we’ll be just one more latin American marxist dictatorship.

You are darn right. The mayor of that town should publicly state that the Judges ruling is against the Constitution, then the Mayor should enforce the will of the people. Then if the judge moves to order force against the Mayor, the citizens should ignore the judges ruling or if it comes to it, surround the Mayor's office and protect him. The people must revolt against these Nazi judges. With all these leftist judges there will be NO PLACE that can do the right thing. Nonviolent Civil disobedience as described above is moral and proper to save our Republic. The line must be drawn. The mayor in no uncertain terms should tell the judge to shove it.

It is the final stealth move to get the ONE nation from annoying the New World Order. Baby Bush is doing papa’s work. The MSM? They’ll go right along with it. My luck in this is my life is past the half way mark. God help our children. This is getting so close to “1984” it is really scary.

it won’t be long now, it won’t be long (archy)

I am glad to see that the Republicans have at least delayed the vote on this. It may be their last chance for me.

I think the only illegals who should get any kind of amnesty card should be the ones help build the border fence, and undergo the same kind of scrutiny I do every April 15.

The bill does not require illegals to pay back taxes. It is complete amnesty.

Heres what I sent to my Senators and “Representative”:

Senator/Rep Sellout,

If this piece of garbage legislation goes through to pave the wave for tens of millions of more Mexicans to flood into this country and sponge off of us, then I believe the people of this country will finally have had it, and you sellouts in D.C. will invite not only your ousters, but an armed revolution, and it will be long overdue. We’ve had it! We in (your state) will be watching how you vote on this.

Feel free to use this, if you like it.

Well it is obvious to me that that is already true. Otherwise they would listen to the citizens and not be working on a bill for Mexico.

I wasn’t aware they paid taxes. After listening on C-Span to the Senator from Kentucky and I am convienced more than ever that they do not. As I understand it; they are compensated for these taxes triplefold or more by what our government gives them in cash/benefits.

But I would argue that those insisting it is amnesty are, in a sense, understating their case. In certain respects it's worse than amnesty. Not only will criminal violators of the immigration laws receive a mere wrist-slap for their infractions; they will be rewarded for them.

Consider the treatment of those convicted of other crimes -- take stealing, for example. The convict not only faces criminal penalties; the law seeks to restore him and his victims to their status prior to the crime, to the extent that's practicable or possible. The bank robber is not allowed to retain the fruits of his crime. He must pay restitution, if applicable, in addition to whatever fines or jail time to which he is sentenced.

By contrast, millions of illegal immigrants under the bill would not be sent back home but would become legal permanent residents of this country. By being allowed to stay, they would be, in effect, keeping the fruits of their crime. More importantly, many of them would become recipients of federal government largesse via a smorgasbord of entitlements.

This is the key principle. If I steal from a bank and get caught. I have to return the money AND be subject to a punishment.

They claim $5,000 in earning, 14 dependents and get “refunds” in the thousands having paid nothing. And when there are 100,000,000 of them or more here what then? Kiss us, the US ,goodbye. This bill will be the end of America as we knew it..

Make calls. Get in their face if you can
