“I am not making this up, those who report illegals crossing the border have been labeled as racist or trouble makers. some people who report illegals have even been threatened with physical violence.

The first time, I reported illegals(selling phony documents)
the cops never showed up. The second time, I got a hostile response from the desk sarge. There is no will to stop these predators, except by enforcing existing laws.

Great post.

God bless!

“I encourage all those Veterans and Americans who so love this country, who support our troops and never want to see it hit again to join together and sending a clear message to the politicians to secure our borders and stop the give away of citizenship.... like sugar candy.”

I’m a veteran and also an immigrant...On both grounds I agree with you...

As a veteran..because this is the greatest country in the world and worth defending and I am proud that I wore the uniform of the US military....

And as an immigrant and naturalized American citizen..because I love America and I am thankful that I am part of the only country whose beginning was inspired by Godly men who wanted to live in a free Republic...

God Bless America.....

Leatherneck MT did a good job responding but it’s really very simple.

Enforce the laws on the books, including securing our borders.

You do realize these people are ILLEGAL aliens. That means there are laws that they are violating. Enforce the laws!

I got one yesterday and sent it back with a note that unless and until they kill this bill and start enforcing the laws we have they will get no $$ from me! I sent it back in their postage prepaid envelope.

Because the money people want the availability of cheap labor and the liberals want more people who are completely dependent on government, thus increasing their power!

It’s extremely simple if they would just fully fund the Border Patrol, build impermeable fences (why don’t we have people pouring out of prisons if it’s impossible?), incarcerate people who employ illegal aliens, and allow local law enforcment to enforce Federal laws.

Are you saying that a significant percentage of illegals commit crimes when they get here?

In north Alabama we have had at least two, may have been more, law enforcement officers killed by illegal Mexicans in the past couple of years.

"Are you saying that a significant percentage of illegals commit crimes when they get here? I'm asking because I oppose amnesty, but I've never understood that argument. In my experiece illegals go out of their way to avoid the notice of law enforcement. As an example, they have a maddening tendency to always drive 5mph below the speed limit."

Somewhere between 40-50% of the prison population in California is composed of illegals. And those are only the scum stupid enough to be caught. Not having an identity, and with a country to escape to for a few months whenever it is convenient makes crime relatively risk free.

Do not infer from my previous comment that I believe all illegals are scum - a majority are hard working, decent people. But they must obey our laws just like I had to obey theirs when I lived in Latin America.

Senator....

I have been a vice president in a Real Estate Trust and for a major United States bank. Also, a United States Naval Officer.

If I or any of my peers presented a policy package even remotely like your COMPREHENSIVE immigration policy....you would have been fired on the spot, given no retirement benefits and escorted out the door by a security guard. As far as the military arena,,,,you would have been laughed at and chatised daily with impunity in officers mess.

We do not want a Great Society 2 with some latin Lord Jims spitting on us and estorting our money that will flow down a rat hole like Great Society 1.

This is a pivotal issue with most Americans.....this is close to us like THE FLAG.

Screw immigration. It is such a mess. Just enforce the laws, fire that dumb butt Chertoff and get a Coast Guard General in there who knows what the hell he is doing and PROTECT AMERICANS.

See the attached article....have all your polictical ilk handlers read it....you will be screwed by the immigrants who could care less about being American...they just are greedy and want money, benefits, welfare etc.....and free health care...and let know one kid you....Just look at Los Angeles, sanctuary city nightmare, graffitti, crime, gangs, drugs, female explotation, corrupt poicticans, virtual racial anarchy before your eyes, the worst public schools in AMerica next to Jeb Bush’s paradise Miami. DO YOU WANT ALL OUR CITIES TO BE like LA and MIAMI with disgusting and corrupt leaders.....you are aware Miami has the most CASH money in circulation in United States and it is estimated 40% of Los Angeles’ economy is a CASH economy.

Wake Up....

If the immigration reform bill currently under consideration becomes law, it could lead to major political realignment favoring the Democratic Party, studies suggest.

Although the Republican Party seemed to be gaining ground among Hispanic voters in 2004, it lost that momentum in the 2006 election, dropping from 40 percent of the Hispanic vote to 30 percent, according to exit polling data in a study by James G. Gimpel, a government professor at the University of Maryland.

Even in the 2002 mid-term elections Republican candidates got 38 percent of the Hispanic vote, the study said.

Story Continues Below

If the current proposal in the Senate to bestow limited legal status on approximately 12 million illegal immigrants in the country passes, within 10 years the Democratic Party would likely see a sizable increase in its voter rolls, according to Gimpel, who is also editor of the journal American Politics Research.

“This will shrink the GOP percentage of Latinos rather than enlarge it,” Gimpel told Cybercast News Service. “A vast majority of this population learn their politics as Democrats. Why? Because they’re poor. There are not a lot of skilled workers and not a lot of educated workers.”

But others contend that immigrants would not leave their values at the border.

“Hispanic immigrants are very conservative on social issue and entrepreneurial and conservative on fiscal issues,” Pedro Celis, national chairman of the Republican National Hispanic Assembly, said in an interview.

The Senate bill would provide conditional visas to illegal immigrants requiring a criminal background check on those already here, institute a temporary worker program, and give priority to immigrants with education and some English skills rather than to those claiming family ties.

The professor’s study concluded that if Republicans want to make inroads into the Hispanic community, “accelerating the flow of mass immigration is not only the wrong course of action, but it may stand directly opposed to what is necessary to make gains.”

Specifically, the political landscape could see major shifts in solidly Republican states such as Texas, Georgia and North Carolina, which already have large immigrant populations, Gimpel said. At a minimum, that would make these states far more competitive.

“Purple states will become blue, and the blue states will become even more blue,” he predicted.

Democrats attracted 69 percent of the Hispanic vote last year as the party took control of the House and Senate for the first time in 12 years, according to a Pew Hispanic Center study on voting patterns.

That’s a sizable increase from the 58 percent of the Hispanic vote the Democrats secured in 2004 and the 61 percent it got in 2002.

“Generally speaking, Hispanics are conservative on social issue,” said Gabriel Escobar of the Pew Hispanic Center in a statement. “However, there are often wide differences among Hispanics depending on nativity, education, and other factors. U.S.-born Latinos are not as conservative as their foreign-born counterparts, for example.”

A Pew 2004 survey of Hispanics showed 52 percent believe abortion should be illegal in most or all cases, while 42 percent believe it should be legal in most or all cases.

At the same time, Hispanic voters surveyed were split 45 percent to 45 percent on whether the government should pass a constitutional ban on homosexual marriage. The rest were undecided.

Furthermore, 48 percent of respondents in the Pew survey said the U.S. government made the wrong decision going to war in Iraq compared to 39 percent who agreed with the move.

Ultimately, however, Hispanic respondents said none of those issues would define who they chose to vote for. Most put an emphasis on jobs, education and health care when weighing their vote.

“The dominant interest among these folks is economic interests,” Gimpel said. “They are concerned about their basic needs.”

Still, Celis is optimistic that Republicans could easily succeed in reaching out to the immigrant population.

“These are not people predisposed to vote Democratic from their values,” Celis said. “If they vote Democrat, it will be because they perceive the Republican Party as anti-immigrant. It’s not automatic. What they do depends on what the parties do to reach out.”

I guess the RNC still isn't getting the message...

I just caught the end of this...(John Gibson's show)...

...Kirsten Powers of the Republican National Committee said, very emphatically, all those people who don't like amnesty...what are we going to do with the 12 milion????

..then she said...'We need to bring them out of the shadows and give them citizenship"

If I heard this wrong, correct me...but I'm pretty sure she said exactly that, and she was very emphatic...very clipped tone, too.

Did anyone else hear this?

I know about MS-13 they have the county of Fairfax Va. quaking in their boots, drive-bys in Prince George’s County Maryland and rapes in Mid-town DC

Funny that we don't seem to have nearly so much trouble with them in Texas. Probably because we have a large native Hispanic population who wants nothing to do with "those darn Mexicans", to clean up an exclamation made long ago by a Tejana friend. Also because Texans (both Texicans and Tejanos as well as those that are both) tend to be very well armed, very well armed indeed, and our laws and lawmen do not punish those who use those arms to defend self, others and property.

This is obvous to any sensible observer. The GOP has gains in some hispanic groups because of upward mobility making some of them patriotic middle-class Americans. this knocks the legs under that.

Importing 12 million near-illiterates from a statist country/society that doesnt have a big 'self-reliance' culture who will be surely on the Govt teat for medicaid and other social services will be a boon to the socialist party.

We saw this happen in California, which went from a mostly-Republican state to a 'blue state' in 15 short years. All due to the 1986 amnesty, a baby compared to this giant. Expect to see Arizona, Florida, Texas, and a few other states (georgia?) to follow the trend.

Terrible policy compounded by bad politics.

No, you idiot. They will vote for the party that they think is looking out for them. A social system based on handouts is what they will want.

get a Coast Guard General

As a Maritime Service, the Coasties have Admirals, not Generals. By my count (from the Coast Guard) they have 44. One full admiral (The Commandant), about 4 Vice Admirals, and the rest Rear Admirals, and that includes at least two Reservists.
