Amnesty must be opposed by those who have worn the uniform
myself | May 22, 2007 | Trueblackman

Posted on 05/22/2007 9:47:30 AM PDT by Trueblackman

I as a veteran am completely opposed to any form of amnesty for illegal allies living and working in the United States of America.

Just like myself in 1993, the President and Congress took a Constitutional Oath to defend this nations from enemies foreign and domestic, now rather than do their Constitutional Duty in enforcing our immigration laws, it seem that President Bush and Congress are seeking to give citizenship to those who have done nothing to earn it, broke our laws in coming here illegally and commit crimes, flee our justice system and leave maimed and dead Americans in their wake.

When I served in the United States Navy, I met and worked with my fellow members of the Armed Forces and some of those members were former citizens of other nation, who willingly enlisted in our armed forces in the hope of gaining American Citizenship, some given their lives in places like Bosnia, Kosovo, Afghanistan and Iraq to defend their adopted country, but how do the politicians honor their sacrifice? They allow special interest activists to write a bill that simply gives citizenship away like sugar candy.

What is the purpose does it serve for our young men and women to go off and fight against terrorists worldwide, fulfill their Constitutional Duties, when the politicians who send them on the missions refuse to do theirs and simply try to take the chicksh*t way out because their popular is on the line, defense of this nation is not a popularity contest on the level of American Idol.

How can a Lance Corporal from Brownsville Texas be sent to South Korea tasked with the mission of serving along the DMZ between the Korea and if he/she were to raise the alarm upon hostile forces crossing into the DMZ they would be hailed as a hero. Yet if the Lance Corporal goes home on leave and raises the alarm about illegal aliens crossing the United States/Mexico boarder, he/she would be labeled a trouble maker or racist for simply fulfilling their Constitutional Oath.

I wonder how a former citizen from the former Eastern Bloc who escaped Communism, a African who escaped tribalism or someone from the Caribbean seeking citizenship might feel to know that their time in the military was wasted because once again like in 1986 the politicians are simply going to give the citizenship away to those who did not do a damn thing to earn it. That the sweat blood and tears that they shed on missions and battle simply allowed others to cut to the front of the line.

How do we spend Trillions on fighting a War on Terrorism overseas, but our boarders are not secured? Radical terrorists can simply cross our boarders as they please and then find sanctuary in cities such as San Francisco or Los Angles because politicians have instructed law enforcement not to report them, yet if a Commanding Officer was found to have instructed his troops in doing the same thing, these same politicians would be demanding accountability, conducting investigations and demanding the Commanding Officer’s Head. The Border Patrol has already captured several radicals with links to terrorism at our Southern Border and it is the ones that have not been caught that should worry all of us. How many more 9-11’s must happen for the politicians to get it through their damn heads that the borders must be secured and Americans must be protected?

I don’t say “no” to amnesty, but I say “hell no,” and I encourage all those Veterans and Americans who so love this country, who support our troops and never want to see it hit again to join together and sending a clear message to the politicians to secure our borders and stop the give away of citizenship.

This amnesty bill should be opposed by anyone who’s ancestors came here legally.

Are you saying that a significant percentage of illegals commit crimes when they get here? I'm asking because I oppose amnesty, but I've never understood that argument. In my experiece illegals go out of their way to avoid the notice of law enforcement. As an example, they have a maddening tendency to always drive 5mph below the speed limit.

Sounds great. Send it as a “letter to the editor” to all of your local publications and to all your congressmen . Veterans input is essential.

“...how do the politicians honor their sacrifice? They allow special interest activists to write a bill that simply gives citizenship away like sugar candy.” You are absolutely right. What happens when you reward people who have broken the law? You get more lawbreakers.

So how are you going to solve the illegal problem? You seem to know what not to do so you must be an expert. Oh, your plan has to be able to get enough support in Congress (61 votes in the Senate) to become law. The Nation awaits your guidance.

Let's not fall into the trap of making false analogies. There are enough reasons to oppose this bill without having to make up others.

As a DMZ vet myself, it’s certainly feeling like it was all a grand waste of time now.

You devote a good portion of your prime years to protect your country and its way of life, enduring hardship and danger with really little thanks, save for a memorial day parade here and a yellow ribbon there.

Then, after all that, our civilian leadership, in its infinitesimal wisdom, sees fit to cast that very country and its way of life into the dustbin of history simply for the sake of creating a few million citizens that can be added as willing grist to their party’s vote mill.

What was it all for? What were we defending?

I would extend your call not just to veterans, but to those currently in uniform. As George Washington said, “When we assumed the soldier, we did not lay aside the citizen.”

God you are so right. I love to see foreign nationals join our military and do a GREAT job. When they become American citizens, they are so thankful and honored...oh and HUMBLED!!! I really think that giving of yourself to become an American is so appreciated instead of just handing it to the illegals who DON’T APPRECIATE IT AT ALL!!!!!!
