Kill Bill (Immigration bill)
National Review ^ | May 22, 2007 | Stanley Kurtz

Posted on 05/22/2007 1:58:00 PM PDT by gpapa

The immigration bill as a whole is a monstrosity, but the supposed shift from family unification to a merit-based point system is the section of it I’ve been focusing on. ("Unassimilated extended clan creation" might be a better term than "family unification." The current system goes way beyond immediate family, and is particularly dangerous when applied to cultures–like Muslim culture–that build themselves around extended clans.) The fundamental absurdity of this "reform" is that the bill actually provides for eight years of increased family unification before the point system fully kicks in. That’s a killer right there as far as I’m concerned. This bill actually aggravates the problem it’s supposed to be curing.

Another provision that attempts to pull the wool over our eyes. If they want to unify their families, they can return to their home countries. Kurtz says, “Given the priority of family unification for the Democrats, the opposition by business, and the focus of immigration critics elsewhere, the notion that we are going to see a full-fledged point system take over eight years from now is laughable. The claim that we are shifting from family unification to a merit-based point system is nothing but bogus window dressing. The current bill actually accelerates family unification, and Democrats in the House and Senate are determined to go much further even than that. Again, the notion that we are moving to a merit-based immigration point system is a joke.”

This bill actually aggravates the problem it’s supposed to be curing.

This is a surprise? When hasn't federal action outside its Constitutional duties not aggravated the situation?

Once you get past the basic concept of enforcing the laws legislated by the duly elected representatives of the People, you're bound to start making a Big Mess in a hurry.

i just faxed 9 pages of an earlier post, calling on Vets to speak up, to my senators. THey sure seem to have lost the idea that they were elected to represent the people. They need to quit listening to the voices they think they hear and follow the Constution. If they don’t, the people who elected them and will vote someone else into office. Eventually they will get the message.

You seem to think that the glass is only half empty. Just realize that this gives eight years for Congress to pass a "technical correction" to eliminate the point system and extend the family unification. In eight years there will be more than enough chance for that to be tacked onto a National Eggplant Day law.

This is just one more example of "I will gladly promise you strict immigration controls Tuesday for an amnesty today."

Don’t the dumb asses in the senate know history will repeat itself? The frosting on the cake of the Gray Davis recall was him wanting to give illegals drivers licenses.Do they think giving illegals the whole country will be a popular stunt?

And since we know Kennedy will be around till the year 2525 you can be sure he's the one who'll be gutting anything remotely connected to enforcement in this bill.

Senator from (R)Alabama, Mr. Sessions (Yesterday on the Senate floor)

"I reject the idea that a movement to a system such as Canada's or Australia's that is based on merit and skills for immigration is somehow, as I think Senator Reid said, an attack on the family. I am offended by that statement. A person who wants to come to this country, has to ask to be admitted into the United States of America, and say that: I have not been a criminal, I meet the standards for admission, and I want to be a productive citizen. Then after we give that person a green card, that person can become a citizen and have the right to demand that his or her parents be allowed to come here, the aging parents who will be fundamentally supported by the American taxpayers, demand that his or her brothers and sisters and their spouses and children be allowed to come. So how is this an attack on your family if we say: You can come, you can be a citizen, but right up front, you cannot bring your parents, adult children, and siblings, you don't have any special rights to do so, but they can apply if they qualify, just like everybody else, based on their own merit. But why should the fact that we give one person a glorious thing--citizenship in the United States--entitle them to bring maybe tens of other people? It just does not make sense. I reject the argument that moving to a merit based system is an attack on family. Canada does not believe it. Sure, you can bring your nuclear family--spouse and children. I am not talking about stopping nuclear family from being together. I am talking about a reform of the current system that focuses on the extended family."

Ya gotta keep yur eye on the real ball......slave traders take care of slave masters who in turn take care of slave enablers who support the whole process to start over again.

Only constant.....NO ONE WANTS TO EVER STOP exploitation of illegal aliens. This bill insures bad behavior will continue forever...too much dirty money to be made.

Exactly. That “family unification” is just nonsense. They can be together in their own country. I am sick of these stupid claims.
