Very interesting (see bottom of Page 3).....

An oversample of African Americans was also conducted for this poll, for a total of 192 interviews among this group. The results were then weighted in proportion to the racial composition of the adult population in the U.S. Census. The margin of error for African Americans is plus or minus 7 percentage points.

‘CBS Poll: 76% Say War’s Going Badly’

Unfortunately for CBS, nobody watches their news broadcast, and so this is meaningless.

Maybe if they reported that CBS/NYT is going badly, people would watch their “news.”

‘Maybe if they reported that CBS/NYT is going badly, people would watch their “news.”’

On the weekend, maybe. But not with Katie Couric, professional lightweight, delivering the news.

Well, if it’s CBS (the home of the ever-popular Mrs. Couric) running the poll, I am shocked that they cannot get a higher percentage of people on their side. They ain’t trying!

It’s hard thinking of that bunch (television personalities) and coming with someone who would add some credibility and weight to the “news.”

They all sort of remind me of bugs squashed on the windshield.

This is an encouraging poll. I would be worried if 3/4 of the population thought the war was going well. It clearly isn’t.

They all seem to be walking testimonials for cosmetic surgery. I think that’s the most interesting thing about them. And of course, the amount of make-up one can plaster on their faces without it falling off mid-interview. The women seem to hold up better though.

By your standard, WWII went very badly for us and for our allies and we should have pulled out and allowed Hitler and Mussolini and the Japanese to take over the world.

Did we have a hundred body bags a month coming back three years after we defeated Mussolini, Hitler, and Imperial Japan? Let's also remember that all three of those enemies were technologically proficient societies, relative to our own. The muzzies don't have any technology that they didn't steal first.

Also, Eisenhauer, Patton, and MacArthur didn't fight WWII the way we are fighting this one. This war is being conducted by those who learned their techniques in Vietnam. As I recall, in that war, we came out in second place...

I'm only in favor of the "come home" option because it is clear that our 'leaders' have no intention of winning this war, they just want to see the muzzies settle down a bit, so they can declare victory and come home. It's more than unfair to the men who have to fight and die in the meantime.

Don Henley’s song ‘dirty laundry’ captures this perfectly, as did the scenes in the first ‘batman’ movie, where the news anchors look ridiculous without makeup.

You never get to that point at which nobody ever dies. There will be training accidents and the perils of dealing with lethal machinery. In certain cultures, in certain parts of the world, there is a tradition of killing off everybody who doesn’t agree with you — or worship the same god.

Then there are the scores of people who just “go off.” In some cultures, that is even politically correct — to stone your wife if she looks at another man. So if one factors out the ambiance, there is remarkable peace in the world as a whole — with the notable exception of the Middle East.

On the plus side, the real heavy hitters are not at war with each other, or even is their major animosity or tension — and are more or less in agreement that somebody should do something about terrorism disrupting well-functioning societies — even if they’re “letting George do it all.” They, at least, are not going to get in his way. They have no fondness for terrorists in Beijing, New Delhi, or even Paris.

76% of the people will say anything is going “badly,” if you just pester them enough. Compared to what — the Holocaust or Utopia? 76% don’t even like their programming. What’s news?

Of course not. But our people are dying at the same rate that they were when the war was in its 'hot' period. And the 'lethal machinery' that is killing our troops is in the hands of the enemy.

All I'm saying is that if we're going to win like WWII, then we need to fight like WWII. If we're going to fight like Vietnam, then we need to cut our losses early. Especially since the enemy wants to finish the job for us in this case. All of the Muslim world needs to be depopulated, if we can't do it, then we need to make sure they do it for us, like in Lebanon or Gaza.

Unfortunately, most of those who could not find Iraq on a map are likely those who support the war.

Excuse me?!

Exactly.

The audacity and stupidity of the defeatists is growing a lot on this forum.

It’s doubtful that we’ll ever win a war like we won World War II, or fought like Vietnam, or Afghanistan — each being its own unique challenge. That is the primary mistake in calculating wars — fighting the present one as though it is the last, or some other. If it were that easy, than the Democrats and demagogues would be right.

I think the worst thing now is for everybody to be the commander-in-chief, when we have a good one, and I doubt that Jimmy Carter and Bill Clinton could do better (just going on their proven track records).

Of course we’d prefer to win every battle with zero casualties — but I think we have a president who while not infallible, probably does the job better than anybody else could — and I think we need to allow him to make those calls and determinations.

I think he’ll do it far better than the Matthews and Olbermanns of the world will — and of course, Katie Couric.
