Ted Kennedy Gets a Little Republican Respect
Washington Post ^ | May 30, 2007 | Elizabeth Williamson

Posted on 05/30/2007 7:56:37 AM PDT by notes2005

In a recent speech to a Mississippi civic group, Sen. Trent Lott brought up Sen. Edward M. Kennedy's role on important domestic legislation, including Kennedy's latest push to overhaul the nation's immigration laws.

When Lott was finished, a man in the audience came up to him and said: "You did real good. But that part about Kennedy -- don't say that no more."

"He is the number one boogeyman for conservative Republicans," Lott said later of the longtime Democratic senator from Massachusetts. But, Lott added, "he is a good legislator, and you can't take that away from him."

That Lott would praise a liberal icon of the Democratic Party might seem odd. But Kennedy's work on the immigration bill is, in fact, the third time he has thrown himself behind a major initiative of President Bush's. Kennedy gave crucial support to two of the president's key first-term domestic achievements, the No Child Left Behind education law and a Medicare prescription drug bill. That he helped Republicans burnish their record on such trademark Democratic issues as education and health care mystified some in both parties.

"Senator Kennedy's name has been on every major immigration reform bill since 1965, and he has always teamed up with Republicans," said Cecilia Muñoz, National Council of La Raza, a Latino civil rights and advocacy organization. "The fact that President Bush is pro-reform . . . creates the political opportunity."

Bush and Kennedy have discussed immigration issues for years, but when they met in January at a White House event marking the fifth anniversary of No Child Left Behind, it seemed that the time was right for both men. "He spoke about this issue knowledgeably," Kennedy said. "And he was willing to take some political hits on this. That caught my eye."

If this is the way Lott's audience responded, then they are a bunch of dumbasses.

That part about Kennedy wasn't just thrown in, it reveals what the whole amnesty business is about. All the rest of Trent Lott's talk was smoke and mirrors. That was the only honest part, apparently.

Kennedy didn't help Republicans "burnish" their record - - he helped them "tarnish" their record.
What's to be "mystified" about?

You may give him as little respect as possible. That’s way more than me giving him no respect at all.

Well, Trent, Teddy may actually be a good legislator.

Somehow that doesn't outweigh the fact that he is a KILLER.

“But Kennedy’s work on the immigration bill is, in fact, the third time he has thrown himself behind a major initiative of President Bush’s.”

Yeah.... the THIRD attempt at trying to get more illegal immigrants as registered socialist voters, as well...... 1965 (300,000 illegals), 1986 (4,000,000 illegals), 2007 (12,000,000 illegals)..... Gee, do you suppose that we shall see another one in 2027 (56,000,000 illegals) !?@?@

Stop this nonsense. Stop Ted Kennedy. Stop the Marxist left.

Everyone - Do everything you can to stop this from happening. It will NEVER stop unless WE stop it.

His legislative talents notwithstanding, Kennedy is what he is: he respects no authority - not his own church, not the laws of his country, not his own family. He is he poster boy for self-indulgence and corruption and greed. He is a double murderer, an adulterer, an enabler and encourager of disgusting behavior among the young people in his own family. Did I forget anything? So, just STFU, Trent Lott.

Kennedy is not only a criminal but no matter his expertize on Senate rules ala Byrd, he is bad for American free enterprise capitalism and our national security. That Pubs could play house with him is disgusting.

Biggest traitor in the history of this or any country. He literally detests his own nation and people and works night and day for their destruction. The Republicans pay homage to this treasonous filth because they don't really have any core values outside of business interests and because they don't have any real cultural power in our media dominated democracy. In the school yard the bully gets to say whatever he wants about his victims, they have to act with deference towards him. That picture is a classic example - Kennedy in the dominant seated position and his lackeys gathered around him. And don't think he didn't know it.

And ...

Mussolini made the trains run on time ...

The Nazi’s had better uniforms ...

The Japanese had a true warrior-poet class ...

Need I go on?

Trent Lott is not a conservative. He personally impeded the Impeachment trial of Clinton, just because he didn’t want to be one of the “bad guys” in the history books. Lott has no spine or moral core.

Hey Trent! Go have another one at the bar with your buddy, the Swimmer!
