Promises, promises, promises. We are hearing all sorts of promises from our elected leaders and those vying for the presidency. Among the most bizarre of promises was that the immigration measure temporarily defeated in the Senate could solve the growing problem of 12 million illegal aliens. It's a hollow promise. This Senate bill was filled with loopholes big enough to drive busloads of illegals through. But, rather than merely opposing it, senators ought to be putting options on the table now -- genuine steps that can be taken to solve the problem of millions people from points around the globe who have crossed our borders illegally.

It is a big problem. I've seen it firsthand in the Chicago area.

Hospitals are hurting because illegals use the emergency room as doctor visits, give false names and insurance policies and leave the bill for the hospital to pay. In California, the problem is so bad that 85 hospitals have gone bankrupt and closed.

Schools are faced with a big problem as well. Recently, I spoke with Chicago teachers who described how Spanish-speaking women were bringing their children in to register them for preschool and kindergarten and needed a translator to do it. When told that they would need proof of age to register their children -- a passport or birth certificate -- they said they didn't have such documents and left the school. But they returned the next day with birth certificates and were registered for school. No one checked whether those certificates were genuine. The children are now enrolled in school and will get the education that you, the taxpayers, pay to underwrite.

Last week, some friends who had to go out of town for an emergency asked me to sign their daughter up for a summer soccer league. As I stood in line, a group of women, speaking a foreign language, walked up and asked, through an interpreter, for application forms. The volunteer who handed out the forms told them they would need proof of age for the league. The interpreter told her they didn't have documents. She later returned and said she could get them in a day. Legal documents? Who knows.

Let's get something straight: We are not a "nation of immigrants"; we are a nation of Americans. We are made up of people who legally immigrated to this nation, assimilated and proudly became Americans.

I have a friend whose parents emigrated here, legally, from Russia. His family learned to speak English, and he went on to write for Rolling Stone magazine and produce news for a TV network. Another friend, whose parents came here legally from Ukraine, learned English with them and went on to work as an adviser in the White House. A Cuban family I know came here legally; seven sons and one daughter all learned English, became citizens and opened successful businesses. A close female friend came legally from Mexico, won a green card, waited eight years, studied for the test and proudly became an American citizen.

To a person, all of these legal immigrants are opposed to what the Senate bill proposed. Each one of them worked hard to assimilate and become Americans. Without such assimilation, with people living in the shadows and speaking all tongues, America could become a Tower of Babel.

In the 1950s, President Dwight Eisenhower looked at the problem, sent a general to the border states to talk with employers, came up with a solution and, within a year, had cut the number of arrests of illegal aliens crossing the border from one million to 45,000. The senators should take a look at that plan.

No more promises from our elected leaders. Seal the borders now.

Bush does get it. He's not an idiot. He know exactly what he's doing.

Only fools think that somehow the reason our politicians keep passing bills that undermine traditional American values is just because they are somehow ignorant or stupid or don't understand what the American people really want.

They are not ignorant. They are not fools. And they know to a decimal point what the American people think and want.

They cannot be trusted and should be prosecuted for willful criminal violation of the Constitution. (but since making the senior members of both parties share the same agenda they protect each other and ensure that no major damage will be done to either party, for example when Trent Lott protected Clinton).

Stop being fooled America. These guys are smarter than you are.

We need a new Operation Wetback. Ike did substantially more with a few hundred agents than Bush does with thousands. The difference is will. Ike had the will to drive out illegals, Bush wants them in our country.

the politicians supporting the illegals are bought and paid for...
the bill was placed on hold while enough vote buying took place to move the bill to the House....
those senators voting for this injustice against American citizens should feel the voter's wrath....
but I know not if these senators will feel the voters wrath for money does strange things to those announcing the winners from the returns, on election night.
Americans may only have the opportunity to stop this travesty in the House, but as much pressure as may be brought to bear should be placed on the senate.
At least after the voting, Americans will no longer have any doubt as to who the traitors in the senate are. Defeating the traitors may be second fiddle to the he!! which will be caused if this thing passes the House too and is signed.

How about every business that is clearly hiring illegals get advertisment of 1. that they are hiring illegals and 2. how much money they pay to the politicians.

If there was a such an organization, I don't doubt that the businesses and the politicians would be running for cover. Bring all this low class slavery to light and call it for what it is.

Truth is they are UNTRUSTWORTHY and are PROSECUTABLE for willful criminal violation of the Constitution.
Now how do we prosecute these frauds, crooks and liars who have been elected but refuse to do the job!

President Bush calls it a reform bill. We haven’t enforced anything to reform that I can tell.

There are certain business and individuals attempting to do just as you typed, but thus far the movement is small or nonexistent. I don’t have the solutions to stop this travesty, but I do know strength comes in numbers. We have the numbers but we are basically being ignored by our employees. The only solution is to fire the employees, but with the corruption in the congress and the media, that may not be possible. I’m at square one, and Thomas Jefferson’s words of wisdom may be this nation’s only solution if the politicians shove this down our throats.

El Presidente’ Jorge’ should be Impeached for failing to seal our borders 6 years after 9/11. It is his Constitutional duty, and he has been derelict to the point absurdity.

The Elites have convinced themselves that the if the border is sealed the following will happen:

1. Mexico will implode from population and political pressures. The result is unpredictable, but the thinking is that, when the smoke clears, a Chavez-like communist government (or worse) could emerge as our neighbor. [Of course, it could clean up its act too, but lets ignore this possibility for a moment]

2. The US will undergo an economic double wammy as a result of the aging population: a depression resulting from fewer consumers and the need to pay for our burgeoning senior citizen population. This will result in a shrinking GDP and runaway Government expenditures—much worse than today. [Of course, we could let people pay for their own healthcare, but lets ignore that solution for a moment]

They have calculated that we will eventually be able to assimilate all these immigrants—if not them, then their children and the short-mid term cost is worth avoiding the above scenario.

The big problem is that the cost of the immigrants will bankrupt us anyway. And, when we reach steady state, we will be living in a nation of 500M+ people. It will be crowded, dirty, and confused. Our culture will be trashed, likely replaced with Mexican style corruption—it will be every man for himself. In short, it will resemble a Third World tower of Babel. But, hey, the big corporations will have their consumers—and that is all that matters, right?

Right after that picture was taken the guy on the right said of the guy on the left, “I looked into his eyes and say the back of his head.”
I know it’s an old line but the amnesty push by the President has my hackles up.
