SOFIA, Bulgaria - President Bush, turning from adulation in the Balkans to difficulties back home, said Monday that his stalled immigration overhaul would be revived and his embattled attorney general would not fall under a Senate vote of no-confidence. ADVERTISEMENT

"I'll see you at the bill signing," Bush said confidently about an immigration bill that has run into deep trouble on Capitol Hill.

If they were illegal aliens, they would have gotten amnesty.

Why should they?

As a registered Republican for 39 years, I can no longer support or defend Bush. I called the White House this a.m. and made those comments. I also called the RNC in DC with the same comments. I think Bush has totally lost the base. IMO, “all” Republican politicians that support this garbage bill need to be voted “out” ASAP.

“It is surreal.”

After the cloture vote then the Demo-angst expressed by the likes of Hairy, Mitch, Phil, Ted, Babs, and some other friends of the president, and after Senator Sessions’ (R Ala) great response to their steaming tripe, CSpan2 showed the senators’ next piece of business.
Did they call an emergency session to try and `hammer-out’ something that might begin to address this urgent problem, in order to satisfy the American people, seeing as how their `grand bargain’ had failed—say, gee I dunno, maybe measures to enforce our existing immigration laws?
No. Senator Durbin introduced a resolution to commend the Brown University women crew team for winning the 2007 crew championship.
Have they done anything since? Nothing substantive, though they and Dubya have issued threats to sing a second off-key verse.
So, in Congress: SN-AFU.

Here’s a copy of an email I set to Bush and Cheney;

Dear Mr. President,

This bill must NOT pass.

We the American people that voted for you expect you to SEAL THE BORDER and ENFORCE CURRENT LAWS. It really is that simple.

Enforcing the law means deporting the illegals we catch and punishing the employers hiring them. If you do that and build the fence that was passed and paid for, you will go a long way to solving the illegal immigration problem.

Sincerely,

President Bush says “Either your with us or against us”. We’ll Mr. President, Mexico does not support the war on terror and voted it down on the UN. How many troops does Mexico have in Iraq?

..., and subject to the jurisdiction thereof,...

How can the offspring of those present in the U.S., but subject to a foreign power, be subject to the jurisdiction of the U.S.?

They’re all toast. Even Dummies don’t want this garbage bill that will turn our country into a third-world cesspool. Time to clean out the Congress. Traitors need to go home in disgrace.

Please see Section 5 of the article.

If Congress weren’t the eunuch's club it has become, they’d do something to right that misinterpretation.

I have always said (I thought tongue in cheek!) that the politicians of the Bush family were planted in the Republican Party by Democrats in order to destroy the RP. They have certainly tried their best.

I would add a #4 while they are still here: Tax all that money they send home to Mexico in order to pay for all the government services they use here.

The Bush family has purchased a huge parcel of land in Guatemala. Why? I think he knows full well what this measure will do to the country, and the chaos that will come from it. He just doesn’t want his own to suffer it.

I also believe he is doing what he thinks is right for Humanity, and that he believes, in all his pigheaded arrogance, that he has the right to circumvent the People, the Constitution and the great traditions of this nation by steamrolling this nation-killing measure into law. Our Nation and We the People mean nothing to him - because he’s following his all-trumping personal Conscience and Judgement - and the death of this nation is just an unfortunate but necessary step towards the achievement of his utopian vision of a unified planet.

May he and his directly reap what he is sowing.

"Your point #2 would require a constitutional amendment."

Yes, possibly, but interpretations in the Courts has not stopped clearly un-Constitutional legislation in the past, where activist courts have succeeded in torturous readings to justify findings.

If it takes a Constitutional Amendment, the passage would be asssured as I'm sure that 2/3 of the States would ratify the change, to negate the past precedent of the interpretation that "persons" and not "citizens" was a mistake by the Courts in justifying foreign Nationals having "anchor babies" in the first place.

Under current legal precedent, if a busload of migrants in their ninth month of pregnancy make it into the U.S., we get a BUSLOAD OF ANCHOR BABIES, and whether or not they (the mothers) are here illegally or not is of no consequence to the Court....the babies are suddenly afforded automatic citizenship, the illegals are afforded taxpayer-funded medical, social, and other benefits. This CLEARLY was not the intent of the Framers, EXCEPT in the interpretation of the Court, and this NEEDS TO BE CORRECTED. This also would relieve the burden to infrastructure, school systems, social-benefit systems, etc., and would remove the incentive to "anchor" illegals in this country.

Fat chance that Congress would EVER do such a bit of legislation with business interests being furiously fighting any loss of their pipeline/supply of low-wage help.

It is unbelievable how dense the President is on the immigration issue. A vast majority of Americans believe that you don’t reward people that break our laws. What is so difficult to understand about this? God in Heaven, help us.

Hey, I’ve always agreed with your position. The best government is limited government. VERY limited government. Just wait until Hillary gets in power and gives us health care based on the dept. of motor vehicles model.

I hate it when you’re right, too. ;-)

I’m not so sure they are putting their political careers on the line. They know where the money comes from - business interests. And, they figure that the conservative base will always go along with them in the end, based on the “lesser of two evils” nonsense. They laugh at real conservatives the way Dems laugh at blacks. They believe we have nowhere else to go.

"Your point #2 would require a constitutional amendment."

Not really, Congress has the power to make legislation that fits enforcement - but does not have the balls.

Section 5.
The Congress shall have the power to enforce, by appropriate legislation, the provisions of this article.
