GOP Blocks Gonzales No-Confidence Vote
AP ^ | June 11, 2007 | LAURIE KELLMAN

Republicans blocked the Senate's no-confidence vote on Attorney General Alberto Gonzales Monday, turning back a symbolic Democratic effort to prod him from office despite blistering criticism from lawmakers in both parties.

The 53-38 vote to move the resolution to full debate fell seven short of the 60 required. In bringing the matter up, Democrats dared Republicans to vote their true feelings about an attorney general who has alienated even the White House's strongest defenders by bungling the firings of federal prosecutors and claiming not to recall the details.

Republicans did not defend him, but most voted against moving the resolution ahead.

Short of impeachment, Congress has no authority to oust a Cabinet member, but Democrats were trying anew to give him a push. Gonzales dismissed the rhetorical ruckus on Capitol Hill, and President Bush continued to stand by his longtime friend and legal adviser.

"If you ask Arlen Specter, do I have confidence in Attorney General Gonzales, the answer is a resounding no," Specter said during a news conference in Philadelphia prior to his return to Washington, D.C., for the vote. "I'm going to vote that I have no confidence in Attorney General Gonzales."

Thats OK Snarlin Arlen....we FReeps and true blood conservatives have no confidence in you either. I think we should bring our vote up for a referendum....puke RINO.

The only reason they show up in Congress, is to do
aomething, any thing, to embarrass President Bush...he
is hounded day and night by these egotistical Bast+++s.

It’s about time those with the “R” by their name show
some sense of loyalty to the party, and fight these Drats,
who exist, only, to be a viriolic voice in our Congress.. JK

Collins, Snowe, Spector, GOrdon Smith, Coleman, Sununu, and Hagel(maybe) voted with the democrats. Someone voted present rather than vote; it didn’t pass. But boy they sure were slandering Gonzales on the senate floor today from the parts that I saw. Disgusting and disgraceful stuff.

Don’t our elected leaders have a dental plan? Maybe Waxman can’t afford the copays. Better get Hitlery right on it. We have a constitutional right to good teeth.

Like it matters...

Republican Congress impeached Clinton and No Democrats voted to impeach even though Clinton flat out lied under oath and obstructed Justice. So Democrats failed to hold their own accountable ... but yet a bunch of Republicans voted yes on no confidence on a sitting Republican Presidents AG who was witch hunted for doing absolutely nothing wrong and an indicted Democrat Congressman who took bribe money later found in his freezer sits on Capitol Hill continuing to serve. Democrat Treasonous acts like stealing and destroying classified information in the middle of investigating the murder of nearly 3000 American citizens, in an act of war, instigated by radical islamists funded by foreign powers, gets a slap on the wrist and a fine and to this day can regain his Top Secret Security clearance to serve in a future Democrat Presidents cabinet!!! and a man that gets investigated for not remembering to whom he told a name of a CIA agent in the context of who recommended Joe Wilson go on a trip to Niger, gets convicted of lying to a grand jury in an investigation about no crime in a great travesty of justice receives a 2 1/2 year sentence. Again something is seriously wrong in our government.

and Hagel(maybe)

I am so glad Hagel is being severely challenged in his upcoming race.

I do believe he's my least favorite GOP Senator.

Where is La Raza in defense of legal native- son Alberto Gonzalez?

Oh wait... he's a Republican....never mind. Only the illegal democrat socialists get their own 1-800 # hotline to the Senate.

The question is why not a single Senator on the GOP side hadh the brains to move for impeachment and make the Rats put themselves on the record?
