Bush: Time to act on immigration (speaks at Nat'l Hispanic Prayer Breakfast)
Chron.com (The Houston Chronicle) ^ | June 15, 2007 | DAVID ESPO AP Special Correspondent

"Each day our nation fails to act, the problem only grows worse," the president said at the National Hispanic Prayer Breakfast. "I will continue to work closely with members of both parties, to get past our differences, and pass a bill I can sign this year."

Bush, at the prayer breakfast, said, "We must meet our moral obligation to treat newcomers with decency and show compassion to the vulnerable and exploited, because we're called to answer both the demands of justice and the call for mercy. "Most Americans agree on these principles," the president said. "And now it's time for our elected leaders in Congress to act."

The bill includes measures designed to seal the border to future illegal immigrants, while cracking down on the hiring of workers who are in the country unlawfully.

But the provisions relating to the legal fate of the estimated 12 million illegal immigrants has drawn the most controversy. The bill allows illegal immigrants who were in the country as of Jan. 1, 2007, to come forward, pay fees and fines, pass a background check and receive an indefinitely renewable four-year Z visa to live and work legally in the U.S.

I did not find any dislike of catholics there. He was, I believe, pointing out the differences which occur among different religions.

As with so many things throughout history, not until the usual suspects and the guilty are safely in THEIR graves will the REAL motivations and reasons for some of these conspiratorial world-changing events be known.

Perhaps our kids and grandkids will be able to read about them in their new, improved SPANISH language history textbooks...

My respect for Bush has almost totally gone. What kind of a fool does not see the handwriting on the wall. He has backslid for years with his base trying to set him straight on immigration. Damn, I hate to say this but a fool is a fool. It is like he is in a coma! Is it his ego that is driving him, because it wouldn't take much of a ignorant person to see the damage this onslaught of illegal immigration has done to America. What the hell is going on? I'm very confused!

I am complaining about the extremes, not the middle people, such as yourself.

The 10% of posters that are trolls are ruining F.R.

How can you believe this is slander when every catholic church, without exception, has at least one statue of Mary - to which people rightly or wrongly pray on a daily basis. They have something called a rosary, which entails almost exclusively prayers to Mary and they carry these with them and pray these prayers almost daily. If they believe in doing this, let them and leave them alone to do it, but it is hardly slander to point out here that they do this.

WHAT ABOUT THE MORAL OBLIGATION TO THE LEGAL CITIZENS OF THE U.S. ?

George you’re “Stuck On Stupid”

Again, I leave it to the Roman Catholics to defend their faith. You may note my tagline is in Hebrew.

“Icons were at the heart of Christianity. They helped keep the faith, people centered and meditative, and renewed the Belief throughout the years, even through great tribulation.

Have you heard about Christians in Tokugawa Period Japan who made little Christian icons on the backs of Buddhist images, so they could reverse them when the samurai were not around looking fo Christian heads to hack off, and they could pray to their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ?

Visit the Catacombs in Rome sometime, eh? If you look you will see the roots of your Faith, right there before your eyes. ;-)”

The prophets were iconoclasts, which of course means idol smashers. No where in the Bible are idols taken lightly. They were crushed, burned, destroyed with God’s blessing. yes, they have been a big part of catholic heritage, but what does that have to do with me? I don’t believe in them and I think my Biblical justification to worship God, only in spirit is justified. And by God, I mean the Lord Jesus, who alone is God.

But that’s just me...

The president has gut kicked the conservative base and continues to do so even as I type. He is right now very busy selling out his country, and YOU want to raise the level of discourse here? Amazing.

Can't disagree with those sentiments. But they don't apply to criminals who haven't yet been apprehended and punished--which is what the illegal aliens are.

Check out the 10 Commandments and the surrounding verses in the Bible. Icons were specifically warned against. If catholics want to have them, let them, but do not say to me that they are the basis of MY faith. Stay in your own lane, please.

"Each day our nation fails to act, the problem only grows worse,"

Then start enforcing the laws that are in the books.

This is the most fun I’ve had in a long time. My protestant Grandma would be so happy. Chalk me up as one of those who believes the Catholics are behind the illegal immigration fiasco. They’ve been causing trouble for centuries.

Anyone catch the irony in this scene?

The fact that Hispanics have their own prayer breakfast IS THE ENTIRE POINT.

Either come here to be Americans, or go home and be Mexicans. Choose, because you can’t have both. It’s not how it works.

I also think having an NAACP is pretty racist on a lot of levels. Black history month? How would people feel if we had a White History Month. How about having a History Month, period?

I know we seem to be repeating a lot of the mistakes we should have learned from history, and being non-discriminatory in terms of learning history might be a good thing.

File this under Reproductive Rights, Religious Tolerance with respect to Muslims, Declassifying homosexuality as a mental disorder, and other lazy acts of denial.

How can any American citizen think this bill is good?

It's only the sheeple who think that. The informed Americans hate the bloody thing.
Lately I've taken is to email my sheeple friends (the usual suspects...the ones that only circulate jokes and annoying chain letters, hate discussing politics, and get all their "news" from Katie Couric) with "KISS" info on the subject. It's been heartening to see some of these people start to get engaged with the issue after their eyes are opened.
Of course, some of them really do hate being awakened from their slumber and will ask you to knock it off.

But at this point I'll try anything. Desperate times require desperate actions...if they get t'd offed, so be it.

It is pretty funny that a Jewish guy (and a freemason, to boot) such as myself is put in the defensive position for the Roman Catholic Church.

But I do agree that the 1970’s seminaries of the Roman Catholic Chruch were over-run with people who confused socialism with Christianity.

Of course, the same thing happened in the Episcopal Church, the Methodist, Presbyterian, and apparently half the Lutherans

The same thing happened with the Conservative Jewish schools, BTW. (The Reform were long ago off their rockers.)

And, of course, those that went through seminaries back in the day are the bosses today.

It is becoming (well it has been)quite clear that the President is acting as an "enabler" for the others members of the "Blindfold" club. Now it is not exactly next week when he will be through in the Office of the President but at his current rate of deterioration he will bring this nation to its knees in about one year.

I don't know about you folks but I can not see letting the nation be destroyed because of one rouge President.

Sadly, the issue is becoming one of what the hell do we as responsible citizens do? The President is CLEARLY not governing “from the consent of the governed.”

Folks, that is a serious state of affairs.

This elite “club” of “rulers” that are roaming freely around this Nations capital pi$$ed off at “younger guys who are huffing and puffing against the bill” and referring to freedom of speech as “Talk radio is running America. We have to deal with that problem.”

Say what?

I gotta tell you I get mental images of Hugo Chavez when I hear quotes such as the one above.

These folks have got to go and they have got to go ASAP!

Oh, there is certainly error in every church group, no doubt about that, it’s just that no one group has the power and the money and influence of the Roman Catholics. I’m sure the Lutherans or Adventists (or whomever) would cause trouble too, if they had the ability- ha
