Bush Stresses Immigration Bill's Compassion to Hispanic Leaders
The Christian Post ^ | Jun. 15 2007 | Michelle Vu

WASHINGTON – At a gathering of Hispanic Christian and community leaders on Friday, President Bush pushed for support for an immigration bill that would legalize millions of unlawful immigrants, highlighting the compassion behind the bill.

Hispanic men and women were praised by Bush for making the United States more “vibrant” in fields ranging from art to business to religion, and for helping to change America for the better.

The president gave as example success stories of immigrants in the White House and government. He pointed to Sen. Mel Martinez (R-Fla.) who is originally from the communist island of Cuba but is now a member of the United States Senate. He also spoke about a Hispanic American coast guard he recently met who graduated at the top of his class who shared in his speech about his migrant grandfather.

“Isn’t it a fabulous country where a migrant grandfather can come and have a dream and work hard, and there’s his grandson talking about the promise of America in front of the president of the Untied States and his classmates,” Bush said. “That’s the beauty of America.”

However, Bush did not neglect to mention the country’s responsibility to enforce the border, create a lawful way for foreign workers to fill vacant jobs, and resolve the status of illegal immigrants in the country “without amnesty and without animosity.”

Yeah, it is fabulous but let them go back and stand in line like my grandparents did. It is not wonderful that these people break the law and then are rewarded for doing so.
George Bush has lost his mind. I am totally sick of this man!

how about some compassion for the people who obey the law and apply to come here legally, and who then have to put their lives on hold for a decade while the immigration bureaucrats play footsie with their paperwork??

I think the answer is more basic..

The sell-outs would NEVER get an Amnesty-only bill passed therefore they extort the American people by coupling Amnesty with border security.

“No Amnesty?” the poliitician says... “Fine.. No border security” he answers.

elPresidente Boosh can't distinguish between Hispanic CITIZENS of America and illiterate Mexicans from Mexico. Obviously, Jorge doesn't understand that Mel Martinez is from Cuba. Cuba and Mexico are NOT THE SAME!

He and idiots like panty waist, Linseee Grahamesty are trying to make out like we are racists and bigots because we are against them. All of those who Jorge is mentioning are Hispanics who have been born in the US, or who have assimilated into our culture. They love America because like us, it is THEIR country too. I have NO PROBLEM with them.

I have a problem with illegals who have broken the very first law to come to America. I have a problem with the hardened criminals, gang members and terrorists who have entered into America ILLEGALLY. They HATE Americans. They wave Mexican flags. They carry signs that say WE stole THEIR country and they have plans to take it back. They don't even want to learn how to speak English. They follow racists groups like LaRaza, and MEChA in hating Americans. THEY ARE THE ONES I DON'T WANT HERE!

It’s amazing how many seemingly intelligent ppl are just now figuring out GWB. You all had your expectations way too high, and gave him way too much credit. GWB was simply better than the other choice. That’s all. The shock and amazement is sort of baffling to me. Duh.

Not with this old kid. I was one of those that was constantly being called a “conspiracy nut”, a “reactionary”,...no, his agenda became noticed as far back as when Dad was talking about the New World Order. I must give Bush credit in a way — he did FOOL THE MAJORITY for some time after 2000. He kept the pro-illegal, society-engineering agenda well hidden to most...but it really began to show when the illegal issue came up and he constantly ran the other way.

Still most ignored the importance, and guys like me were assailed by the BushBots. No, if anything, please don’t put me in that category, that of the naive, the non-believers. I became clear what he was when the heavy spending and the avoidance of the illegal/border issue started getting swept under the rug, the attacks on the Border agents, the deliberate suppression of their activities started leaking out — this was years ago.

Sad situation for America to witness your own government turn against the core values of America, the rights of the people, and our precious Constitution — because that is EXACTLY what is happening. Our Republic hangs in the balance.

the president made a rare visit to the Capitol earlier this week and personally lobbied to Republican senators to support the bill.

According to Time President Bush's spent the recent lunch meeting listening to Senators and "telling Senators that the immigration problem has become one of national security."

Dare I wonder that just maybe Washington has been warned to stop the raids looking for ILLEGAL aliens [my description] and get them "regularized" before the "long hot summers" start which will make the 1960s look peaceful?

A percentage of the millions -- perhaps tens of millions -- of disgruntled folks faced with returning to their government-created cesspool, hellholes just might be real easy to stir to violence.

As bad as things were for many blacks of a couple of generations ago they were above all else, Americans. Not so the millions of other countries' citizens living here ILLEGALLY.

Is that "the immigration problem [that] has become one of national security?" Is that the reason that opposition to immigration "reform" has Washington saying that talk radio is the problem?

I remember the 1960s fires, violence and the curfews -- I remember the foreign flags and huge numbers from a year ago. I am not allowed to ask, are those huge numbers about to be stirred to violence? The left has not given up on its pledge to "bring it all down, man."
