Kim Jong-il's health spurs successor talk

SEOUL -- Increasingly credible reports that North Korean leader Kim Jong-il is in failing health are raising questions about his continued leadership just as Pyongyang moves to shut down its nuclear-weapons program under a Feb. 13 international agreement. North Korea on Saturday invited International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspectors to visit the country after the transfer of more than $20 million out of a bank account in Macao. IAEA spokeswoman Melissa Fleming told the Associated Press in Vienna, Austria, that the "next steps" would be discussed today. But it is increasingly unclear whether Mr. Kim, 65, will remain in sufficiently good health to carry through his nation's February commitments or who would take charge in his absence. Doubts about Mr. Kim's health first arose on May 28, when South Korean newspaper Chosun Ilbo suggested that he was suffering from heart, kidney or liver disease. The London Daily Telegraph reported last week that Mr. Kim was so ill that he was unable to walk for more than 30 paces.

Personally I think they should give the subsequent NK leadership position to Madaline Albright. Alter all as his dutiful handmaiden who was more loyal. The only concern for the U.S. is that Albright might be even more of a current anti-American than Dear Leader.
