Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants

Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants Jun 23 01:49 PM US/Eastern President George W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States as he renewed his push for immigration reform, a centerpiece of his domestic agenda.

A revised reform package was reintroduced in the Senate this past week after its predecessor failed on June 7 to garner enough votes to cut off debate and move for final passage.

The collapse of the first proposal has prompted a personal intervention by the president, who went to Capitol Hill to plead for giving the bill a second chance.

But while he has succeeded in putting the proposal back on the Senate agenda, the legislation is facing strong opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, who argue that granting legal status to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants will only encourage more people to sneak across the poorly guarded border.

In his weekly radio address, Bush sought to address these concerns, revealing for the first time that under the revised proposal, people crossing a US border illegally will not only be deported, but never allowed to enter the United States again.

"Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa," the president stated.

He went on to assure Americans the new bill puts border enforcement first.

The measure contains 4.4 billion dollars to help the US Border Patrol hire more agents, build additional fencing, purchase infrared cameras and other technologies that help intercept illegal aliens.

"Only after these enforcement tools are in place will certain other parts of the bill go into effect," Bush said.

This man has become an embarrassment to the entire nation.

He should be impeached.

No, I do not believe a word of this. A bill has already been passed for border fencing.

BUILD THE DAMN FENCE!

I want the entire fencing that has already been passed, built, not the watered down, reduced footage fencing that this new "comprehensive" bill has in it. I want to wait for at least a year, maybe two, to see if the flood becomes a trickle.

If that works, then come talk to me about what to do with the law-breakers already in the country.

Now had he said that when the troops come home they will be reassigned to protect our borders I would give it some thought.

If he said they will be reassigned to protect our borders until the fence is erected and maintain it until the border patrol is fully strengthened, I would say, yes Sir!

Ah, there's the rub. They won't be caught and without a FENCE and some security on our side they'll keep on coming.

And they will all have family and friends swearing on their sainted mothers' graves that the illegal has been here the requisite number of years so that they are eligible for the "temporary" Z-visa.

“He should be impeached.”

If the Dems wanted to do it I wouldn’t stand in their way.

An embarrassment? That is the understatement of the century.

The worst President since Carter.

Any Congressman who voted for the war is incapable of being president. If they voted for a war and left the American republic vunerable they should lose their seat in congress. Liberal, democrat, republican, communist.... it doesn’t matter. They voted on war and left the door unlocked with a broad invitation, come on in, we’ll prosecute any border agent that does his job.

I believe that people are starting to realize that Bush does not have the hand of God on him. God is bringing to light those things that have been hidden. Keep watching more is going to be coming out. God is doing his part to expose the lies, are we doing our part to a least witness what has been done?

Bush won’t even enforce the current immigration laws. Does Bush think we are so stupid as to believe he will enforce any new immigration laws? Heck....even his attorney general was a member of the hispanic racist organization, La Raza.

I'd like to add...

Mr. President,

"Give me heat then I'll put the wood in", is NOT how it works.

Bush is a major moron and coward.

The borders can be secured without amnesty.

He’ll just have to get his post presidency speaking fees from other sources.

Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants Jun 23 01:49 PM US/Eastern President George W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States as he renewed his push for immigration reform, a centerpiece of his domestic agenda.

Yeah, right....just like he was going to make sure that the borders would be enforced.

In 1995, when Gov. Bush was suing the United States' Government for $5 billion, he said:

"If the federal government cannot do its job of enforcing the borders, then it owes the states monies to pay for its failure."

That's right, when George W. Bush was Governor of the State of Texas, he sued the federal government for reimbursement of the costs of incarcerating illegal aliens, yet there are millions more illegal aliens in the United States now than when Bill Clinton was President.

When campaigning for President in 1999, George W. Bush issued this statement:

[Federal expenditures would be more effective] "...at the front end, to stop people from illegally entering our country, not at the back end, by reimbursing states after it has failed to enforce the border." [I] "would allocate additional resources to enforcing the border, so states such as Texas and California would not have the huge expenses they currently do." (San Francisco Chronicle, Sept. 9, 1999)

In 1995, his press secretary, Karen Hughes, issued a statement regarding Bush's support of a legal appeal by Texas Attorney General Dan Morales to recover $1.34 billion spent by his state on incarceration and education of illegal immigrants.

``It's not fair to the taxpayers of Texas to stick them with the bill when the government fails to enforce immigration laws,'' Hughes said to reporters then.
