Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants

Bush vows permanent ban on future illegal migrants Jun 23 01:49 PM US/Eastern President George W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States as he renewed his push for immigration reform, a centerpiece of his domestic agenda.

A revised reform package was reintroduced in the Senate this past week after its predecessor failed on June 7 to garner enough votes to cut off debate and move for final passage.

The collapse of the first proposal has prompted a personal intervention by the president, who went to Capitol Hill to plead for giving the bill a second chance.

But while he has succeeded in putting the proposal back on the Senate agenda, the legislation is facing strong opposition from both Republicans and Democrats, who argue that granting legal status to an estimated 12 million illegal immigrants will only encourage more people to sneak across the poorly guarded border.

In his weekly radio address, Bush sought to address these concerns, revealing for the first time that under the revised proposal, people crossing a US border illegally will not only be deported, but never allowed to enter the United States again.

"Under this bill, those caught crossing illegally will be permanently barred from returning to the United States on a work or tourist visa," the president stated.

He went on to assure Americans the new bill puts border enforcement first.

The measure contains 4.4 billion dollars to help the US Border Patrol hire more agents, build additional fencing, purchase infrared cameras and other technologies that help intercept illegal aliens.

"Only after these enforcement tools are in place will certain other parts of the bill go into effect," Bush said.

My first response was the same- This has to be a joke! Then I got very angry about Bush testing my intelligence once again.

How stupid does he think we are?

Very....but he doesn't care if you're actually stupid or not....it's his way AND the NAFTA trans-corridor highway.

Simple as that.

There's no room for America or Americans in his plans to sell us down the Rio Grande.

"STOP! Or I shall say STOP again!" It would be funny if it weren't so frigging pathetic....

A genuine real-life Monty Python skit.

Thanks for the link. That article solves the riddle. Clinton started shifting resources only to employers implicated in smuggling, right around the time the drop began. Apparently, Dubya continued that policy. Absolutely shameful.

In retrospect, that's what we should have been giving Clinton grief about, not Monica Lewinsky. Then immigration enforcement would have become an issue in the 2000 election, and we could have nominated someone decent, instead of that incompetent traitor we're now stuck with.

I'm proud to say that although I voted for Bush twice in the general election, I did not vote for him in the primaries.

It does seem that even with all the billions and billions that we have given in aid not much has changed. I have been to Mexico several times and each time I have noticed a general improvement in people’s lives. But the majority of those who come here are from the hinterlands and points south...small farmers and others who cannot be absorbed into the economy who cannot sustain themselves in the cities.

“W. Bush promised Saturday to permanently bar future illegal immigrants from the United States.”

So you’re sorta “promising”:

‘The check is in your mouth and I won’t come in the mail’

Er... or something like that?

I can’t make the same boasts....but, he’s definitely not the same person he was while on the campaign trail. He’s a traitor and a liar.

Impeach Congress and start over.

Sounds like a good plan to me; unfortunately, they've have legislated it so that the people cannot.

What happened is when Reagan’s amnesty passed, tough legislation on future illegals was enacted. [that’s why Reagans amnesty passed without all the hoopla] The problem is no administration has had the fortitude to enforce those laws as they are believed to be too harsh by the bleeding hearts. Reagan’s amnesty package was supposed to solve the problems of illegals in this country and allow no more in. President Bush chose to do zero enforcement until he was forced to- that is why we have reached the tipping point.

This prior experience is exactly why those of us that live on the border and have watched all this are so hard headed about the issue. We want it to really get fixed- no more promises, no more open borders- and it is why amnesty is now such a dirty word.

The Great Wall of China worked...the Berlin Wall worked....so could the American Wall.....if our so called reprsentatives wanted it to work.

I don't believe in a wall. However, I also don't believe in handouts, including public education, to non-citizens.

I was once proud of the fact that I was personally acquainted with the president - that I had been on the same 1994 general election ticket with him here in Texas - but no more.

I'm sad to say that he is no longer the man I once knew and admired.

Of course there won’t be anymore illegals, they’ll be citizens of the USA as soon as they hit US soil. Just eliminate the status and like magic, no more illegals.

An even easier feat to accomplish once Bush has eliminated the borders....then we're all Norte Americanos.

Uh, I thought that there is NO WAY to keep illegals out?? A fence won’t work, and we can’t patrol the entire border!

He is being very dishonest with the American people now.

It seems everyday he just raises it a notch higher, pissing more and more in the faces of his base who worked for him in 2000 and 2004.

Some gratitude.
