Valin apparently thought this was about Iraqi officers being trained in the US. With his sarcastic comment he made fun of the nuke-’em-all crowd and some folks here who are anxious about training Iraqis.

The link and subject confused me, too. I’ve been over here for about 18 mo. now and have been involved a bit in the various USG efforts to train Iraqis. While their flag officers tend to be crap, the LTs, captains, majors, street cops, line investigators are crazy brave. If the Persians want to come a’calling in a decade or two, they’d best think twice. But it is going to take that long to teach them one simple concept: logistics. Sheesh — give ‘em 3 vehicles and they assume 2 exist only to be cannibalized to keep the other one running. Would that we’d go with a Indian Army (under the Raj) model — long-term commitment US officers leading Iraqi soldiers . . . Empire-lite nonsense is killing us.
