refer back to the tenth amendment. There is no such thing as inferred powers, only explicit or usurped ones.
The road thing, see about post roads.
How is it unrealistic? Our country survived most of its existence without a federal government running everything. We have existed longer without an income tax than with one, the department of education was established in 1980, less than 30 years ago. If we dont take the opportunity to start changing things now, they will become so entrenched that it will become impossible to change them. Government only gets bigger and bigger as demonstrated by our countries short history. We have a history of freedom and local governments doing whats best for the people locally. We have to start somewhere, and now is the time for that to start.
BTW im not pissing and moaning about anything. We still have a chance to change the system. I might start pissing and moaning when the chance is gone forever.
My beef is Ron Paul's ideas are unrealistic. To roll back the Republic to the 1600’s style government our Founding Fathers envisioned is impossible for many reasons. Not to mention that even they had differing ideas on the scope of Federal government.
I agree we need to constrain the scope of government and reign in the out of control spending and growth of entitlements we see. I just do not, in any way, think we can achieve the level of roll backs Ron Paul is advocating. I'm not giving up, I just think its a wast of time putting stock in a guy that has such unrealistic goals.
As much as we may not like it we do live in a world with a global economy. We do live in a world who's relative size is much smaller than that of the 1600's. We do live in a world that is a real threat to our way of life. The kind of threat that an isolationist like Ron would have us fall victim to.
I will give him this much credit, he brings the debate of smaller government to the table. He does do that, and perhaps that is what he is destine to do.
He’s got a lot of good qualities and ideas. But, he pissed into the wind (as my daddy used to say) by blaming us for the attacks on 9-11.
He did irreparable damage to himself; just like Bush 41 saying “Read my lips; no new taxes.”
What a difference one statement can make.
One more thing: Would he consider a Third Party run again? He’d get 20 times more votes this time than last time he ran as a Libertarian.
Here is what Ron Paul’s position on the war in Iraq from his website:
“The war in Iraq was sold to us with false information.”
Sorry, that sounds too much like John Kerry and John Edwards to me.
Erik, it was sold with a lot of false information. Consider Bush saying he was not “nation building”.
I don’t see any point in arguing with you about limited government. You don’t believe in such a thing.
