Live Thread: Senate Amnesty Debate (CRITICAL 2ND CLOTURE VOTE TODAY!) Woo hoo!! It's DEAD!!
The U.S. Senate with Free Republic Input | June 28, 2007 | truthkeeper

Posted on 06/28/2007 6:25:57 AM PDT by truthkeeper

Here we are again my friends, hopefully for the last debate thread on this particular monstrous legislation. Proceedings are supposed to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the cloture vote being taken at 10:30 a.m.

On a personal note, you've all been wonderful in your passion, vigilance, and commitment to the principles on which our country was founded. If I have to be in a foxhole, I want to be in it with you guys.

Byrd is giving his resignation speech?

I don't think so. Sounds more like someone has suggested he should, and he's cranky about it. He's defending the contributions of the elderly, including himself.

LUGAR VOTED “YES” oh my lord...... I pray that this
seals his fate and he’s GONE. Once I see the roll call, man is he going to get an ear full from me!

“And the Byrd will not sing. ;0”

The Byrd WILL sing. He’s been on our side since the beginning. I guess that his pocket Constitution finally seeped in through osmosis.

LOL! Good one Didi ...

The dems will spin this as a failure of Bush policies but I think of it as a victory for America and Americans.

I just take it that Brownback, Warner, Voinovich, etc. can learn!

Nope, Brownback switched his vote from a yes to a no after the defeat of the motion was assured. His vote was therefore irrelevant so he switched it to a "no" so that he could claim that he is tough on immigration.

Warner and Voinovich waited until the end to vote - rest assured that they have learned nothing - the motion was already defeated so they just went with the politically advantageous route.

Just incredible. Congrats to everyone who called the Senate, and to Rush, Sean, Laura, Mark, Bill, and all the other radio guys, and to everyone who blogged so doggedly on this—to Michelle, Mickey, Power Line and countless others. A great victory! Now we need to try to hold their feet to the fire on enforcement.

What happened to all the earlier tax dollars that have been ok’d for a fence?

House Resolution 6061 (H.R. 6061), "Secure Fence Act of 2006", was introduced on September 13, 2006. It passed through the U.S. House of Representatives on September 14, 2006 with a vote of 283 to 138.

On September 29, 2006, by a vote of 80 to 19 the U.S. Senate confirmed H.R. 6061

President Bush signed HR 6061 into law on October 26, 2006.

The Secure Border Initiative

(SBI) was a program created by Secretary Chertoff of DHS to organize the four operating components of border security: Customs and Border Protection (CBP), Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the U.S. Coast Guard (USCG). SBI has 3 main operating goals: improve border security, increase interior enforcement of immigration and customs laws, and implement a Temporary Worker Program (TWP).

The only commitment that DHS has currently made is to pay for a 28-mile *pilot section* of SBInet in the Tucson sector of the Arizona-Mexico border.

The cost of this pilot section is estimated at $67 million. The value of Boeing’s three-year contract to build SBInet across both the northern and southern borders is estimated between $2 and $2.5 billion.

I no I will get flamed, but I have always had a soft spot for Sen. Byrd. He kind of rambles on a bit now, but I heard him speak years ago; you don’t hear that sort of public speaking anymore. He was awesome.

Can’t help but smile at that. Can’t help but smile right now, period. For the time being, at least, the good guys have won. The American people are still in charge.

Or they just preferred to vote in the majority since cloture was already doomed.

Those three weasels along with Hagel, Grahamnesty, all need to be defeated in their next primary.
