Here we are again my friends, hopefully for the last debate thread on this particular monstrous legislation. Proceedings are supposed to begin at 9:30 a.m. EST, with the cloture vote being taken at 10:30 a.m.
On a personal note, you've all been wonderful in your passion, vigilance, and commitment to the principles on which our country was founded. If I have to be in a foxhole, I want to be in it with you guys.

No one has brought up two key issues in this debate:
1. The effect on State and local governments and their budgets for health care, schooling, food stamps, social services, etc. for the illegal aliens granted amnesty.
2. No one has mentioned the current condition of the underground economy in this country. As an example, the State of California in a recent study estimates its underground economy at between $40 and $160 billion per year.
Conclusion: The States will take the lead in toughening our immigration laws, as many of them are doing now, regardless of the outcome of the Senate shamnesty bill.

Arlen is LYING LYING LYING. The 1986 legislation failed because the govt wouldn’t enforce it, and the same thing will happen if this monstrosity of a bill is passed.
Has anyone noted that on those automatic calls that the operator says “if you speak English, press 2”.
