Weiheinstephan is my favorite followed by Hoegaarden and Paulaner is a distant 3rd. I’ve yet to find a domestic wheat beer worth it’s salt. The only one that comes even close (and it’s still pretty far off) is Sam Adams Summer Ale.
Well, good beer is sold on tap in my experience. Don’t get me wrong, it’s good in bottles too. But I never understood how bars could serve Hefes on tap. Because the sediment yeast is part of the deal. ‘Kristall’ is just filtered hefe weissen, which is a high quality beer, but I don’t like it.
I went North too - and tried a “Berliner Weisse” in a totally wanker globe glass. Yick. German beer is all good, but it’s not necessarily drinkable. “Rauchbier” or smoked beer is interesting but I’m not gonna slame 12 of them in a night. Maybe some people do.
You obviously haven't found Pyramid Hefeweizen from Seattle--by far the best domestic I've found. I'm sure you would like it better than Sam Adams, given the other beers in your list.
Hoegaarden is closely duplicated by Celis White. I am told Mr. Celis used to be the Hoegaarden brewmaster before he emigrated to the US.
