Mr. Novak should have and could have ended this fiasco in the beginning by revealing Armitage as the leaker; yet he stayed silent.
Yup and so could have Fitzgerald

Let's not leave the hero, Colin Powell out of the mix...did I not read that he knew about Armitage also?

"Libby was convicted of lying about . . . ?"

He claimed that he first learned about Valerie Plame from reporters, and he mentioned a specific conversation with Tim Russert. Russert contradicted Libby, and Fitz found evidence that one or two people in the administration had previously told Libby about Plame.

However, this all assumes that learning about Plame is something that would be indelibly etched in one's memory. In view of the importance she eventually assumed, people forget that initially Plame's identity was a minor footnote to the larger story of Wilson's claims about Iraq and of the administration allegedly ignoring his report and retaliating against him for telling the truth.

I'm claiming that initially Plame wasn't such a big deal, and one could easily forget where one first heard about her, especially an extraordinarily busy man like Scooter Libby.

Then you add into that Russert's incredibly bad memory about his own actions and statements, and the fact that so many other witnesses contradicted either themselves or each other, and I have a hard time seeing how they came up with a guilty verdict.

When the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia on Monday refused to review Libby's 30-month jail sentence, Bush's only recourse short of a pardon was to commute his sentence.

Not true, Bush could have issued a "respite" that would have delayed his prison time until after the appeal, potentially allowing him to be totally exonerated without recourse to a pardon.

Who gives a fig if anyone else is happy? This is about Libby. If Libby is happy, what business is it of conservatives who think it isn’t enough?

Libby should have said “I don’t recall” 256 times as Hillary Clinton did under oath.

You beat me to it.

If the First Lady at the time were asked where she lives she would have answered "I don't recall" and not a rebuttal from the MSM would have been uttered.

"On the other hand, the whole world knew what Clinton lied about." What they lied about isn't even the issue. Whether or not one intentionally lied under oath is the issue. Clearly, Clinton did. There is no way he could have been "mistaken" about what he did with Lewinksy (unless he is such a hound dog that he can't keep track of who serviced when.) In Libby's case, on the other hand, there is plenty of doubt that he committed perjury. Now, I wasn't in the court room, so perhaps the jury saw it differently. But I just don't understand how they could conclude beyond a reasonable doubt. Now, if he did intentionally lie, he should be held accountable and it is important that we are consistent. But, the prosecution was so blatantly political that I have to give Libby the benefit of the doubt.
