You mean “girly guy”?

Liberals always play down the threat...always the same story... All terrorists that get caught are idiots... Therefore since they are so incapable we can go back to our latte looking down our noses at those who protect our precious arrogant butts...

I really don't understand stories like this. What kind of people would shrug their shoulders and go "eh?" when savages kill innocents? Why should we champion that sort of person?

The Europe is Great/Evolved, the USA Sucks F1 story is so played out.

Only a bright mind like Gwynne Dyer could portray terrorism like it's the common cold.

It seems to me one of God's little ironies that He has arranged things such that the more intelligent people become, the more they are ensnared in their own intellectual jungle until they become eloquent idiots.

I am thinking God likes simple people and despises the arrogant.

This article was written by the author of the book, Future Tense, The Coming World Order. The book's premise is that earth needs a new world order, one in which war has been abandoned. Further, he believes the U.S. under Bush proved itself to be a rogue nation and is an impediment to this new world order.

The opening line of the book is as follows:

“The United States needs to lose the war in Iraq as soon as possible. Even more urgently, the whole world needs the United States to lose the war in Iraq. What is at stake now is the way we run the world for the next generation or more, and really bad things will happen if we get it wrong.”

It always pays to do some research into an author. Without this examination it is difficult to decide whether they are friend, foe or spend their days in tin foil land making nifty hats.

Its incredible how these critics try to minimize this catastrophe.

Mind you, these are the same journalists who breathlessly say "Five soldiers died in Iraq last week! Five! Game over, man! We've lost! We've got to pull out!"

But 9/11? Well, it was just one attack, no need to get all excited ...

Liberals always play down the threat...

This butthole is not a mere "liberal." He takes it to the next level and beyond.

I am opening a file on this character just in case Sean Hannity's vision ever comes to pass: Today is a day of reckoning let the weak be strong, let the right be wrong, roll the stone away, let the guilty pay, it’s independence day.

We will need to have a list of "the guilty" ready to hand.

By way of background Mr Dyer is a pacifist who has called for the elimination of all nuclear weapons. Like most western pacifists he is an idealist who thinks that western societies can deal with the "third world" on western societies terms.

An occasional terrorist attack is one of the costs of doing business in the modern world.

This is a European attitude which is a mixture of indolence and cowardice. The US always has been more pro-active against terrorrist than the Europeans vide T.Jefferson and the barbary pirates.

You just have to bring a sense of proportion to the problem, as people in Europe do in general.

Wrong. People in Europe have a long history of letting a problem fester until it bursts out into a massive problem that would have been averted had it been tackled at an earlier stage.

They know that they are likelier to win the lottery than to be hurt by terrorists.

They may know this but they also know that their political masters have a long history of indifference to the wants and needs of the general populace.

Russians also are pretty cool about the occasional terrorist attacks linked to the war in Chechnya,

They are pretty cool about such attacks - once they find the terrorists they eliminate them. Don't hold your breath waiting for the western Europeans to eliminate their terrorists.

the vast majority of the people don't believe it.

The vast majority of people in Europe have been so brainwashed by their insitutions that they are indifferent to the reality of what ther politicians have done to them.

Whereas in the United States, most people do believe it.

No more so than the Europeans

but they certainly have not understood that terrorism itself is only a minor threat.

Written like a true graduate of the Neville Chamberlin school of diplomacy

There has been only one major terrorist attack in the United States since the Oklahoma City bombing in 1995, and that one, on 9/11, is almost six years in the past. So how have Americans been persuaded that their duty and their destiny in the 21st century is to lead the world in a titanic, globe-spanning "long war" against terrorism? American cities never have been bombed in war,

Honolulu ( Pearl Harbor) apparently doesn't count.

so Americans have no standard of comparison that would shrink terrorism to its true importance in the scale of threats that face any modern society.

So the hundreds of thousands of US troops who personally witnessed the devastation of the European cities when they pulled the Europeans chestnuts out of the fire in WWI and WWII do not Count? Or the troops who witnessed the results of the fire bombing of Tokyo and the devastation caused at Hiroshima and Nagasaki ? What a stupid statement.

Ridiculous as it sounds to outsiders, Americans regularly are told that their survival as a free society depends on beating the "terrorists."

Americans have learnt that if you let an external threat grow without facing it you pay a much heavier price later - a lesson the Europeans have failed to learn after two devestating wars.

They should treat those who say such things as fools or deliberate liars, but they don't. So the manipulators of public opinion in the White House and the more-compliant sectors of the U.S. media will give bigger play to the British bombings-that-weren't than Britain's own government and media have, and they will get away with it.

AP,CNN, CBS,NBC, etc you are all tools of the Bush administration!

Gwynne Dyer is a London-based independent journalist whose articles are published in 45 countries.

Who should be treated as a deliberate liar and propagandist for the cause of pacifism.

I can think of quite a few terrorist attacks in the USA since Sept. 11, 2001! They have been so-called minor incidents, but have killed our citizens just as much as a large attack. The probelm is the MSM does not pay any attention to these incidents.

What about the Richard Reed case on the airplane? How about the guy who drove his car into a crowd of college students in either No. or So. Carolina? An incident at the LA airport at the El Al ticket line when an Israeli was murdered by a Muslim; an incident in Salt Lake City last year at a mall; an incident in Seattle recently??? I think there have been a few more too, which I have not included here.

This woman is clueless and ought to be fired for printing outright nonsence.

NEFA Series “Target America”: The Illinois Shopping Mall Plot
By Evan Kohlmann

On the heels of the foiled plots targeting Fort Dix and JFK Airport, the Nine Eleven Finding Answers (NEFA) Foundation announces the release of the third in a series of reports examining the multitude of terrorist plots directed at the United States since 9/11. This week’s report again focuses on the homegrown threat, documenting Derrick Shareef’s plans to launch a grenade attack on the CherryVale Shopping Center in Rockford, Illinois. In preparation for his assault, Shareef carried out surveillance, attempted to procure weapons, and recorded a martyrdom tape, in which he ominously warned: “My name is Talib Abu Salam Ibn Shareef. I am 22 years of age. I am from America, and this tape is to let you guys know, who disbelieve in Allah, to let the enemies of Islam know, and to let the Muslims alike know that the time for jihad is now.”

This week (June 12, 2007): “The Illinois Shopping Mall Plot”

Week of June 6, 2007: The L.A. Plot to Attack U.S. Military and Jewish Targets
Week of June 6, 2007: The Miami Plot to Bomb Federal Buildings and the Sears Tower

Oh well, we have nothing to worry about then. Thanks, English chick, for putting us reactionary serfs back in our place. Terrorism is just a nuisance after all.

I wonder if the Press would be so flippant had it succeeded.

No. They would have been calling for the heads of every Western government leader--blaming them for the Muslims' hatred of us.

Amazing how she forgets the first WTC terrorist attack. And how failing to respond to that attack led directly to the second.

Liberal idiocy on parade.

More-competent terrorists might have killed dozens of people,
but it's safe to say that this incident will be taken more seriously
in the United States than it is in Britain or anywhere else in Europe.
....snip....
You just have to bring a sense of proportion to the problem,
as people in Europe do in general.

To some degree, Europe brought this problem on themselves with
liberal immigration policies.

Sadly, the USA seems to wish to imitate the error, somehow feeling
good about themselves by following a Sandra Day O'Connor tack
that in so many words say that the USA should do what all those
enlightened foreign countries should do.

I'm with the Brits and the other European countries that are
now "fighting back"; my comment is only intended to say the USA
should wake up and curtail importing Muslims as a favored group
(from places like Bosnia, Iraq, etc.)

Exactly. Plus, she ignored all the attacks on US interests abroad that were never dealt with properly - especially the Cole bombing.

Bombings in Africa, Beirut, etc. etc. etc.

America has suffered a steady stream of terrorist attacks going back to the Boston Tea Party (those darned American Indians!). People just forget about them. Who remembers Black Tom Island in 1916?

You just gotta love the naive and ignorance on display....its just all in a days work....

What a fool; just because it did not have the outcome they wished doesn't mean we should not take serious the threat posed by jihadists....I guess if only handful die it should be deemed acceptable.....again, what a fool...
