Ignore the upset specials. Vandy over Tennessee? That has happened once already this century and that’s all there will be of that.
Upset alert: Vanderbilt over Tennessee
Just seeing this posted on ESPN.com warms my heart. Let's go Dores!
Georgia Tech fans are the biggest cry-babies on planet earth.
Thanks for getting this started gain.
I was wondering what happened to “MikeinIraq.” He hasn’t resumed posting here on FR after last year’s drubbing of OSU by Florida.
About what? Tech doesn't have any illusions of being a football factory. We know that UGA should beat GT about 7 times out of ten - when Tech has a terrible coach like we do now then it is more like 9 out 10.
It is just bizarre, however, that UGA fans get so excited when beating GT. Like I said, at least Tennessee fans don't act like beating Vandy makes their season.
Not a problem. Mike had mentioned he was going to take a break after the National title game, and he hasn’t been around since.
Funny you should mention the GT fan base, and forgive me for bringing up “old business”, but I’m sure both of you remember the Emerald Bowl when GT lost big to Utah (my chosen allegiance).
I remember a lot of GT fans on various message boards complain about things like a) the condition of the field, b) having to fly acrossed the country to SF, c) that they should have gone to the Music City Bowl (I think), and because of this that the Utes “got lucky”. I’m not trying to stoke the coals of this particular rivalry, I wanted to get JeffAtlanta’s thoughts on that game and what the non-message board fans thought of that game specifically.
Also, one thing I’ve noticed about sports message boards in particular is that one has to have an eleveator that doesn’t go all the way to the top to be a regular on boards like those.
(I should know, I post on one). :)
Thanks... I like it when someone picks it up...
One must first understand the history of Texas A&M football and it’s beginnings.
My thought are that bowl games that are not high stakes (national championship, etc) are essentially exhibitions and therefore meaningless. I couldn't care in the least whether GT or any team I follow wins or loses their bowl game unless it is a meaningful game.
In any fan base, you can find rabid "fans" (usually sidewalk alumni who never set foot on the campus) that talk trash and make excuses. The message boards, unfortunately, are full of them.
FWIW, GT has a terrible coach and we will continue to be mediocre as long as he is allowed to stay.
I read that preview a couple of weeks ago. I think it was on the money. The Lobos have 19 returning starters, the defense should be alot better, and if Porterie improves on last years performance things could get interesting in the MWC. I think the Lobos go 9-3 losing to BYU(I hate that team!), TCU, and a close one to your Utes. I think this is the year they finnaly win a frikin Bowl game. I think the MWC will have the BCS buster in either TCU or BYU. The Utes are close to doing it again soon, but TCU and BYU are the class of the conference. You have no idea how much it pains me to say that about BYU. But the Cougers fate rides on replacing Beck at QB. So do you think the MTN network will ever get carried by DirecTV, and the Dish Network? Or will this be another season that MWC fans have to listen to the radio on game day?
I’m not quite as convinced about byU as a lot of others seem to be. They lose a lot of their offense from last year besides Beck (Harline and Brown are the two big weapons of theirs that come to mind).
Much as I agree about Porterie, I’m still looking at Wyoming as my dark horse in the league right now. They still might be another year or so away, but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least to see Porterie and Karsten Sween as the top two QBs in the league this year.
As for my Utes, I’m cautiously optimistic—a school tradition dating back to the coaching tenure of Wayne Howard, or so it seems. Brian Johnson and his return from his ACL injury will be key, but I would like to see some more depth at the RB spot. The guy that will probably be the featured back in the offense will be Matt Asiata, the JUCO guy that transferred from Snow College. Of course there’s the replacing the irreplacable in Eric Weddle.
“The Mtn.” deal just might be the worst deal in the history of televised sports. I’m somewhat spoiled because I use my extra cash to drive 5 hrs and change to go to Ute games, but if I lived somewhere further north in Idaho, I would never get to see any games. Sad.
Hey...didn’t we take the track and field title? My Gator fan friend was not impressed with that accolade.
Make it 4 MWC fans. I cheer for all MWC teams in OOC play, except for BYU of course :).
GO POKES!!!
I thought the mtn deal sucked too, until Vegas cable picked it up. Now that I can actually watch it, I love it. I hope the satellites pick it up. If not, I can’t see the network surviving.
What is even worse for the MWC is the current bowl situation. Not one bowl game took place this past season after Dec. 23. It’s hard to imagine how a person could make every single incorrect move possible, but Craig Thompson has managed to do it.
You've got that right. But for me personally (as a 'Nole fan), I experienced great joy at the bone-crushing, soul-stealing, sit-in-the-front-yard-and-cry-like-a-little-girl POUNDING UF gave to OSU back in January...and I'm not ashamed to admit it!
Yes, NCAA Track & Field champs 2 years in a row. But let’s face it...that just isn’t the same as winning Basketball 2 years in a row (or winning FB & BB in the same year). The problem for me is, without Superrier there I just don’t have the same level of gut-twisting hatred for them anymore...< /sigh>
I do....you're not trying hard enough.
