MANAMA (Reuters) - The U.S. navy has sent a third aircraft carrier to its Fifth Fleet area of operations, which includes Gulf waters close to Iran, the navy said on Tuesday.

"Enterprise (aircraft carrier) provides navy power to counter the assertive, disruptive and coercive behaviour of some countries, as well as support our soldiers and marines in Iraq and Afghanistan," a U.S. Navy statement said.

A military force that is not used is worthless.

A military force that threatens but isn’t allowed to carry through is worse than useless.

Politicians who declare war yet will not allow our men to fight to win are worse.

Just a muse: Oh why oh why the trade center instead of Congress.

This third carrier news made the radio news on the hour. This is also the umpteenth time the third carrier has appeared ‘in’ the Gulf.

My Bad, make that the Stennis and the Nimitz ( Correction )

I think the USS Reagan is off the coast of Israel somewhere, isn't it? Some one correct me if my memory is off here. Thanks,

Fred, thanks for the correction, I should have known better as I use to drive by Mission Bay Daily and saw it at North Island before it left.

Have a great day and God Bless

No. I read it in a recent dead-tree edition of Navy Times.

I can assure you it's true, though.

Tenacious , I wish I could answer that question, But I am not sure as to where the Reagan is at this time.

No doubt in my mind that some Good Freeper will come up with that answer for you before I repost.

Enjoy.

“The Navy must be staggering their carrier deployments, the last east coast carrier deployed was the Eisenhower, who returned last month.”

As far as I can tell the USS Ronald Reagan is ready to go after a short refit in San Diego. My personal feeling is that once it enters the general region, the fireworks are about to start.

The most important missions will be long-range B-2 and B-52 strikes using penetrators (including the new MOP 30,000 pounder) against fortified nuclear targets.

I have to disagree with the football analogy. We have a great defense and a superior offense that can score at will.

However the owner and his buddies are in the skybox telling the coach how to run plays, so that they can probably cover the spread while their team gets booed by fans who are losing their shirts.

If the Reagan deploys to the Gulf in a surge deployment, things will get very serious indeed. Both the Reagan and the Enterprise are carriers whose air wings contain the new ICAP III EA-6B aircraft upgrade, which is 10 times as capable as the previous versions. They would be essential for defending the fifth fleet against Iranian swarm tactics. Also note that the Kitty Hawk has just left Sydney Harbor after an exercise in the Tasman Sea.

Given the rumblings of a Syrian Hezbollah-like attack in the Golan Heights sometime after July 15th, things may be heating up again in the Middle East.

Hmmm ... and the Kitty Hawk just recently pulled out of its berth in Australia .... lot of combat power floating around that area or within a quick cruise and strike range.

And worse yet - politicians who denigrate the warriors they send into battle.

And still worse a Commander and chief who refuses to stand up for his men and prosecute those who attack them. Aiding and giving comfort to the enemy is not protected by Cogressionsal protection. They should be arrested, but, then the votes to leave our borders unprotected and give amnesty to the enemy would not be there.

Four years ago GW was one of my heroes, today I consider him a traitor.
