Welcome to Fred-Fest ‘08 - The Candidate both sides Love to Hate!
NewsBull ^ | July 10, 2007 | JB Williams

For a well-known and previously well-liked southern gentlemen and respected former U.S. senator, who is not yet officially in the race for the White House, Fred Thompson sure is drawing a lot of unfriendly fire from both sides of the political aisle. Clearly the man both sides see a need to derail is Fred Thompson, which must mean, he is seen as the man to beat in ’08, at least in the minds of the other candidates.

An old friend once told me, when you stand with your head above the crowd, you had better be ready to catch all the rotten tomatoes. Fred’s not only a head above the crowd physically, but it seems idealistically too. And here come those tomatoes…

Let me see if I can remember all the reasons why we’re not supposed to support Fred Thompson for president… according to politicos across the political spectrum.

(snip)

What pundits tend to forget is that more than 80 percent of Americans are neither right-wing nor left-wing. These extreme partisan positions are reserved for political pundits and the politicians they aim to promote, or assassinate, as the case may be.

But most Americans see both politicians and their paid pundits as useless wing-nuts, -

Clearly, as the writer points out quite well, the pundits don’t agree on who or what Fred Thompson is.

That could be because Fred has yet to announce his official platform, though indicators are not so hard to find.

It could also be because pundits are doing what pundits do, they are trying to frame Fred as they wish voters to see Fred, for benefit of their chosen candidates.

Fred will define Fred soon enough, I’m sure...

Until then, it’s all political rhetoric of no real value to anyone but the campaigns struggling to stay alive.

McCain just quit! and he had more money and more support than Hunter and Paul combined...

A long list of others will soon follow...

Clearly, I know what the writer was intending to say.

He was being sarcastic and humorous, in a cleverly witty way.

I even joked about his reference to Clinton’s taste in women versus Fred's.

Perhaps you shouldn’t be so overly sensitive about posts that don’t gush over Fred.

Relax, and don’t take everything as an attack on your guy.

You’re going to need a thicker skin, because if he gets to the general election, the Dems are going to be much more vicious.

Sorry, had the news on in the background... McCain hasn’t quit yet, his top two campaign advisors just quit.

I read the crawler instead of listening to the story details.

Sorry!

We may be supporting different guys in the primaries, but in the end, we are on the same team.

I’ll agree with this advice... “thicker skin”...

But was your opriginal post “NewsBull” a compliment or a rude comment of your own?

An obviously poor attempt at sarcasm, as the article was obviously poking fun at both sides of the anti-Fred crowd, and not a hard news item.

Sorry, I sometimes think I’m more witty than I am.

I need to believe in the man, his backbone, his foundational beliefs and his reasons for wanting to lead this nation.... If Fred comes out as Fred and not some polished committee mouthpiece, my confidence in him will grow.

Agreed - I am tired of sellouts with a "R" after their name. I don't think Fred is one of these.

Thompson should wait for all of them to run out of ammo, then return a little shock and awe of his own.

Yep..maybe he can make a cigar video for them too, like he did for the Mooreon.LOL

At the end of the day, we agree here...

“We may be supporting different guys in the primaries, but in the end, we are on the same team.”

I’m just tired of conservatives providing ammo to the left by firing upon each other.

The left always operates on a divide and conquer strategy. The left is picking up negative Thompson comments from conservative Hunter and Paul supporters and using them to divide conservative voters.

As I see it, the left only wins when the right is divided.

Not a smart strategy on our part. I take no comment personal. But I see negative slams against conservative candidates from within the ranks as helpful only to the left.

Oddly, I’m hearing this from both Republicans and Democrats.

Thompson seems to be attracting “blue dog” Democrats as well...

Maybe the electorate has finally become fed up with partisan hype and no results? Maybe an American president is what we both want now...

Not from this one.

Now Rudy,that's a different story! ;^)

Indeed. My dad wants to write him in for the primaries, since his choices on the Democrat ticket leave much to be desired.

Yep, Rudy supporters too, and a few Romney supporters as well lately. None of it is very smart...

Rudy supporters believe that only a liberal Republican can defeat a socialist Democrat today. They could be right, but I don’t think so. Even if they are right, I’d rather let the nation experience a full-blown socialist first hand, if that’s what they think they want. There’s nothing “liberal” about socialism...but they might have to see it to believe it.

Very strange to me is the support for Ron Paul coming from hardcore leftists???

The only reason I can come up with for this is Paul’s position on Iraq, and general isolationist “blame America first” attitude???

IMO, it's a combination of Libertarians and 'divide & conquer' liberals.

He seems to imply that nobody knows the real Fred.

No, he's implying that the people who fear Thompson have no qualms about making contradictory claims, in their desperate search for any mud that will "stick".

Indeed they are. To the extent that one must seriously wonder at times if they even ARE Hunter or Romney or Paul supporters, and instead are liberal/DNC plants.
