In my opinion this survey is nothing but some fringe liberals saying what they think instead of what our heights really are.

There is an agenda here that America is no different than some third world back woods country.

Liberals are like Muslims.

If it is in their best interest to do so they will tell a lie no matter how big or little it must be to get the end result wanted.

I suspect it has a lot to do with (a) better nutrition in SUrope since WWII and(b) the changing demographics of the US—fewer Norwegians and more Mexicans.

in some countries stature is a big issue. mexico, for example.

the indigenous indians are short. oaxacans are very short.

mexicans envy taller people. the europeans dominate mexico and they are taller, such as el presidente vicente fox.

i’m 6’2”. a spanish teacher told me in class that it wasn’t fair that i was so big! she was a mexican-wannabe; went to live with the poor in mexico.

we have the finest, fattest asses in the world. It will take 100 years for the rest of the world to catch up to those babies.

200 years if you only count Chicago!

LOL thanks for all the laughs, I need it, these ridiculous liberals trying to lose the war is very demoralizing for someone getting ready to join the AF. But I’ll be damned if I let them get to me, I’m gonna do my part to win this war.

Your point is so obviously true, that one wonders how the authors of the article managed to omit it.

It was omitted because the authors of the study are committed to finding a cultural cause for this so they can say "See! America's crappy health system is to blame!" If they brought genetics into the mix they wouldn't be able to get the result they desire.

Today's Korean youth are much bigger. I am also 6'6" and a lot of these guys are looking me in the eye......~!

Ok, what did they put in the kimchi? lol

I was really self-conscious back in that day....walking around, all you saw was black...hair...the tops of their heads! Nothing more than my chest level.

Get off the beaten path and they were looking at you like, "Holy crap! It's Godzilla!" A lot of fun, actually. Uncomfortable and weird to get used to, but fun.

I have not seen any noticable change in the asian population I see here, granted I'm not downtown (strip) much, Maybe the "large ones" are not traveling or don't venture off the strip.

Intersting.

Hey, I'm a woman who topped out at 6'1".

I dated a woman who was 6'. Eventually married a woman who is 5'8". What I like most about tall women is their loooong legs!

Two typical American guys--no, we're not getting shorter :)

(38 inch tall actor Mikey Post can proudly boast that he's MUCH taller than another, more famous actor: 32 inch tall Verne "Mini Me" Troyer...)

It means that the diet and nutrition of other nations has caught up with that of the USA.

Are you one of those "global" types?

Like the USA is in the lead for diet and nutrition......you can not be series.

Ummmm...........

Sorry, but in Shinjuku station..the visibility is excellent.

Except for rainy days when everyone has an umbrella-then it sucks. But for the most part, I had a lot of fun being 193 cm (6'4") in Japan.

JHS, care to guess what the minimum height requirement is to get on the DMZ detail? US or ROK.

Hint, the guy in the middle just don't get it.

Been that way for years.

When I enlisted in the Air Force I was around 5’7” - 5’8”. I kept growing until I was 22 or 23 and am now at 6’.

I’ve noticed most people’s height fluxuates by about an inch depending on the time of day.

I met a young lady whose height would change by 2 inches from morning to evening.

This "study" is just more socialist b.s.:
"Obviously America is not doing badly. It's not at the level of developing nations," Komlos said. "But it's also not doing as well as it could."

His latest research paper, published in the June issue of Social Science Quarterly, suggests the blame may lie with America's poor diet and its expensive, inequitable health-care system.

"American children might consume more meals prepared outside of the home, more fast food rich in fat, high in energy density and low in essential micronutrients," wrote Komlos and co-author Benjamin E. Lauderdale of Princeton University. "Furthermore, the European welfare states provide a more comprehensive social safety net including universal health care coverage."

In the United States, by comparison, an estimated 9 million children have no health insurance.
The push is on. We'll be seeing more and more of this crap as the full '08 election season arrives.

We may be losing our edge in height but we still lead the world in manufactured crises.
