It brings back memories for me, too. A long time back, I remember the Monday after we lost a football game, scores of Cuban paratroopers landed at my high school. My history teacher thought they must have been way off course, but they shot him. Thankfully my brother Jed came back and picked me up, along with a few others. Got some supplies at old man Morris’ place out on the highway, then hid out in the mountains and fought a guerilla war. They were talking about dropping some Green Berets in to help us out in the springtime, but it never came to pass. Eventually that war, like all others wars, ended.
Or did I dream it all? Anyway, this story about paratroopers landing in Colorado reminded me of it. :0
"And I wanna know what silly SOB pushed the GO button NOW!!!"
About a year ago a couple of teams from the 3d SF Grp were doing a practice jump in the wee hours of the morning in NC and they landed on an Interstate. I had visions of the people driving down that interstate watching these guys coming down. Fortunately, nobody hurt.
I was wondering when someone would put together unknown parachutists, Colorado and “Red Dawn.”
10th Group less one Battalion which is in Germany is at Fort Carson CO.
Fortunately, these troops didn't drop on a school or somesuch nonsense. The kids would have needed grief counselors because they saw guns, the troops would have been excoriated in the press for looking, well, like troops, and the administrators would have all needed to change their panties.
That was a great movie to a 13 year old boy. I caught it on TNT the other night. It hasn’t improved with age, unfortunately.
Yes could easily have been a bloodbath! Good job, well done everyone!
Sounds like the movie “Red Dawn.”
I knew it had to be something, I don’t even have a brother Jed. :-)
I don’t get this .... ?? And the graphic isn’t showing until you hit ‘reply’ and then ... what is it?
Works on my 'Preview'; don't know what else to tell ya'.
The last guy out the door caught a gust of wind and almost ended up landing on the highway. The first two landed up on the airfield, but the third guy landed right beside the perimeter fence, about fifty feet from the road.
“or the Jedi.”
I’ve heard a couple of rumblings about them before. Any details?
and they were having to use night vision with waypoints and tricky winds.
nasty stuff..maps/waypoints/wind/and falling.
Okay. It’s showing up now. But ... what is it?
It’s called a ‘Butter Bar’, a 2nd LT, someone who went to school for 8 weeks to learn how to get you killed faster then the enemy ever could.
Ah!! LOL LOL Something my husband would have understood right off the bat, if it’s the same in the Marine Corps.
Some buddies and I used to ride back there to the
drop zone at Bragg to watch a big drop.It was amazing
to see.
As soon as they starting landing the ambulances began
picking up the injured.
Hope your boys leg wasn`t busted too bad.I sympatize
with a broke leg after getting one myself.Mine hurt
for years
