Until 1972 (I think) they were a dominion.
They have a Charter not a Constitution.
NO Bill of Rights.
No First Amendment.
Not even sure if they have the principle of "innocent until proven guilty".
A nutcase (GLBT type)threatened to have the Pope arrested a few years back when he visited Canada.
There is no burden to prove injury, only a whiners claim that it has occured.
So, yeah, it's possible.
Personally, I am in for a monthly donation to help them get top legal representation.
Apparently, the absolute right to face your accuser does not exist in Canada, either.
Isn't that just swell?
Yes there is a Canadian Constitution and a Charter of Rights. There are also freedom of speech and religion etc as in US First Amendment. And yes innocent to proven guilty.
This is not a criminal or civil court but what is called the Human Rights Commission. A kangaroo court to limit free speech under the Hate Crimes Law that is in direct opposition to the Canadian Constitution and Charter of Rights. The HRC are having ruling being challenged in the Canadian Court as we speak. The war is not lost it is being fought as is the case in the US with similar rights and freedoms.
You are aware that there are forces trying to bring similar hate crimes laws and Human Rights Tribunals to US?
We got our own Charter (constitution) in 1982, which was when we became completely free from Britain, until then we couldn’t amend our constitution. The First Amendment is coverd in the Charter of Rights and Freedoms, as is innocent until proven guilty, which we have always had, much the same as the U.S., as a carryover from British Law.
I’ve checked out Free Dominion, but I’ve been too busy posting here to get involved :P
I definitely think we should help them out.
Or, have them ask for political asylum here.
