Bush: Americans will realize need for aliens
The Washington Times ^ | July 20, 2007 | Stephen Dinan

Posted on 07/20/2007 6:17:46 PM PDT by Baladas

President Bush yesterday said Americans will soon realize they need the immigrants and foreign temporary workers that would have been allowed by his immigration bill, which was defeated in the Senate last month.

Mr. Bush, in a town hall session in Nashville, Tenn., also refused to say whether he will pardon two U.S. Border Patrol agents convicted of shooting a fleeing drug-smuggling suspect, saying the prosecutor was a friend of his who made his case to the jury that convicted the agents.

If Mr. Bush was hoping the immigration issue would disappear after his bill's failure, those hopes were dashed, as he was asked repeatedly about border security during the forum — meant to highlight his commitment to cutting the deficit.

"The bill failed and I can't make a prediction to you at this point, sir, where it's going to head," the president told one questioner. "I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people's doors saying, man, we're running out of workers."

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled.

Fight the Dems? Sure. I just wish the President would lead the charge.

But I can’t take a swing at Ted Kennedy becasue W’s lips are usually all over him.

It took nearly 40 posts before the Slavery line. What a joke you are. Never knew slaves came to America on their own.

Let’s get this straight, you want to protect the slaves by Rounding them up and herding them back to Mexico. Your compassion is underwhelming.

Pray for W and Our Troops

Bet I worked on more farms and picked more crops than you did.

Here’s a thought, how bout addressing the issue of where you going to find labor to replace the Mexicans rather than your cheap attacks.

How bout fighting the Dems for a change???

It is a shame, but most of us now feel that we have to fight both Democrats and many Republicans as well. I will pray for our troops.

“Bush,”American’s will realize the need for aliens” Yes, Mr Bush, LEGAL ALIENS NOT ILLEGAL ALIENS!”

Your statement above must be too simple to understand. I agree, legal not illegal.

I think you're right, TT. We do need some unskilled workers in this country; it is the "curse"

We have plenty of home-grown unskilled workers here man...They are called drop-outs. Good lord, we need to import them too?

It is a great show. I love Mike Rowe.

Doesn’t he show dirty jobs that “Americans” are willing to do?

Mr. Bush said there are workers who will do jobs Americans aren't doing in the agriculture sector in particular, and without them the jobs will go unfilled. Who picked the cotton before the border to Mexico was made wide open?

I'm sorry you didn't get a proper welcome. You've been here a year and we are usually more welcoming of our DU visitors than that.

Supply and Demand is exactly why Mexicans are coming across the Border to make 10-20 times what they make in Mexico. The shortage of labor is why there is a need for Mexicans. That is supply and demand.

There are no simple cliches that will solve this issue.

Pray for W and Our Troops

To keep this country going we have to have a certain amount of immigration.

We do? Why? Explain please.

How many illegal aliens are not working in the U.S. now because the Senate failed to pass his bill? None, I think.

Bush cruised through Beverly Hills and was appalled at how long the yards have gotten, and how dirty the pools have become. All the proof he requires.

What utter nonsense.

I work in the welfare bidness. In my California county, we have over 5000 heads of households that do not work and get cash welfare. Why can’t these adults do the work that “Americans won’t do”?

Why do we have illegals working as maids and janitors in Las Vegas hotels, while at the same time there are thousands of people on welfare in Nevada?

Why are there thousands of people on welfare in every state when these states are screaming for workers? Modern welfare, TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families) pays ALL childcare and transportation expenses so people have NO excuse not to work. There is no reason that these welfare clients can not go to work and do what jobs need to get done.

Where I work, we are FORBIDDEN to tell clients to look for a job out of our county. That would be “running the poor out of the county”, to quote our “leaders” here.

My county does everything it can to keep out employers like Walmart, Target, and others that provide lots of entry level, no-skill jobs. These jobs are “dead end” and therefore “unacceptable” to our “advocates”.

Earth to Bush: cut off cash welfare in America for able bodied people and you will have no problem finding people to do the jobs “Americans won’t do”.

I am so tired of this crap.

“I can make you a prediction, though, that pretty shortly people are going to be knocking on people’s doors saying, man, we’re running out of workers.”

The words of a sore loser. Sad.
