A grieving Memphis couple has given up on its seven-year custody battle over a foster daughter after the Tennessee Supreme Court ordered the girl must be returned to her biological parents in China.
Larry Parrish, a lawyer for Jerry and Louise Baker, said in a statement the couple would not make themselves available to the media. But he said the family has concluded any further attempts to keep the 8-year-old girl they've called Anna Mae in their home would be futile.
"It has been soberly concluded by the Bakers that Anna has been forced by a defective system to suffer the wrongs the system has dealt her and that further delaying the execution of what she must now suffer cannot be expected to help," Parrish said Tuesday.
"Analogies to illustrate how the Bakers are can be drawn from your own imagination," he continued. "They are grieving with a grief that is as deep as any that any person could possibly conceive.

just out of curiosity, i thought that you were only allowed to have 1 child in china? they have 3?
This is heartrending. I hope good citizens of Tennessee make their voices heard loud and clear over this - letters to the editor of newspapers, contacting state representatives, make a fuss. Do something!
This poor child is going to be traumatized by this, along with her siblings who will wonder if they’re next. Sane adults cannot make full sense of this, let alone children.
And to think that a crazed judge favors a birth “father” who was once suspected of sexual assault....
I’m so sick of judges like this that I could gag.
Not flaming you, but what a misleading headline.
The judge in this case (and the ‘adoptive’ parents, to an extent) created the problems.
Didn’t read the article, so I can’t comment on that, but the He’s deserve to have THEIR child.
Yeah, and this dear child is a girl no less.
Haven’t they been known to kill baby girls, both born and unborn, over there?
You have to really wonder exactly what’s going on here.
Don’t want to say too much, but my stepson was taken from his mom (my wife) by this judge.
I’ll say this: Thank God for appellate courts.
Judge Childers is a crooked, evil man.
Your statement about being suspected of a crime is ridiculous.
What a tough case. It sounds like the birth parents have a case but what it’s going to do to that girl is unbelievable.
Much as I would want my child back, I’d have to think long and hard about what would be best for her over my wishes and desires.
Yes, take her out of a nice comfortable bed in the US and subject her to the Hell of a communist government. Sounds like justice to me.
From the accounts, the “adoptive” parents deceived the birth parents who spoke very little English and read none. The birth parents have been trying to get their child back for most of the child’s life.
they could just come over the southern border, and get shamnesty
Good point.
If they win this, I think that girl is going to hate them for the rest of her life. She’s old enough now to remember her adoptive family and the US. Being forced into a family of strangers in a foreign (to her) land, and MAYBE not speaking the language. *shakes head in disbelief*
Poor thing.
You are wrong. The He’s lost their rights when they abandoned the baby. Their only claim now is that they didn’t know the laws, no one told them that after 5 months they lose their parental rights.
And they effing won on that.
Bastards.
You abandon your child, you deserve to lose them forever!
The birth parents were ignorant.
That is not the fault of the adoptive parents.
adoptive mom bump for later .....
Everyone should go back and read the facts of this case. This is the right decision.
You should read the article before saying something like that. Not meaning to flame you either.
But this child came to this foster family as an infant. She has lived in America for 8 plus years with this family. The only family she has ever known is this family. She has sisters, brothers, and a sense of community. She also has a yard, a town, and a country that is familiar to her.
When she is taken to her biological “parents” she won’t know them at all. They will be total strangers. The house, the yard, the town, and the country - all new and unfamiliar. She won’t know the siblings.
But worst of all, she won’t be able to see her REAL parents who are the people who were decent enough to feed, clothe, and love her for 8 years. Her heart will ache as she cries every night in bed hoping to be reunited with them.
And I’ll guarantee you that any biological parent cruel enough to do this to a child - isn’t fit to be a parent.
A REAL parent takes loving care of a child. Biology alone does not a real parent make.
They never “abandoned” their child. They asked these people for help. Instead, they tried to steal the child.
And after a certian amount of time, when they don’t provide for or come see the child, it is a case of abandonment.
How much time would you have given them?
The law was clear.
The Hes are illegals and there were questions as to whether or not hey they were using their kids, especially this one since she’s the oldest, as sympathy pawns in the deportation game.
That, said I dunno if he got deported. I think someone needs to link the supreme court to this article Ignorantia juris non excusat
From all news reports, the family never stopped trying to get their child back. In my opinion, the law finally did the right thing in this case.
