All I can find is this one opinion piece by Mark Krikorian, with no sourcing, making this claim about the “Defender of the Melting Pot Award”. It has then been picked up by everyone else. I’m always dubious of folks who don’t provide citations.

What's also odd in that story is how they describe Abraham:
architect of congressional libertarians' anti-immigrant policy of mass immigration.. so did Abraham author an anti-immigrant policy or a mass immigration policy or a policy that is anti immigrant by doing something with mass immigration????
