More Miserable Failure in Iraq

Geesh, how much worse does it have to get before they finally admit they've got it wrong?

Insurgent attacks in Iraq’s Ninewah province have dropped significantly, and if the trend continues, fewer U.S. troops will be needed in the region, an Army commander in the area said Friday.

A sign of the improved security situation in the province is the fact that the province - which includes Mosul, Iraq’s second-largest city - will transfer to Iraqi provincial control sometime next month, said Army Col. Stephen Twitty, commander of the 1st Cavalry Division’s 4th Brigade, during a briefing with Pentagon reporters via telephone.

The Ninewah provincial government has made great strides and can stand on its own with minimal help, Twitty said. “We have a very mature provincial government here,” he said.

The Coalition provincial reconstruction team in Mosul and the brigade staff will continue to coach and mentor the provincial government. “In nine months I have seen this government mature, so they will be able to operate pretty much independently and run the provincial government pretty much independently,” Twitty said.

On the security side, the two Iraqi divisions in the province are already under the command of Iraqi Ground Forces Command.

Will someone please tell Reid and Pelosi to stop stubbornly staying their course on Iraq? I know, we all hoped that the troops would fail and that there would be a nifty American surrender to help Democratic political prospects next year, but its time to admit that there was some poor planning on the part of the Democrats and it is clear they didn't take into consideration the desire American troops have to win at all costs. What we need to find out now is just how Democratic intelligence failed so badly.

As long our media refuse to report the good news from Iraq, I think Mr. Reid and Ms. Pelosi will continue their antics.

The President should drive this home just before the September progress report. He should head to Iraq and walk the streets with Gen. Patreus.

What day will the Democrats tell us it was their pressure on the Administration that caused the turnaround in Iraq?

I bet our boys and girls in Iraq would like to take home 10 each of those Iraqi kids. I know I would.

Harry Reid has declared bark beetles are a more urgent threat to America than Al Qaeda in Iraq.

Yeah, the failure is of those who seek the failure, but the headline works because this plays to the theme of many of the wars critics now and would lead them to read it. Of course, they’d be upset when they did read it, but they need to see they’re wrong.

Ron Paul’s supporters will hound you like monomaniacs. You have to ignore them the way the general public will ignore Ron Paul.

Yes they will. I had many arguments with these loons but at the end I realized that it is really insulting to debate them and it is a huge waste of my time and energy.
