Ultimately, the only Catholic justice is purely egalitarian -- meaning that the murderer is simply a victim of society's lack of love and forgiveness. Justice for the murdered is left only to God and prayer.
Prevention is unimportant (or certainly less important than faith), and anything resembling vengeance for individual victims is profoundly condemned.

Perhaps you misunderstand Father’s statement. Fr. Carr is saying that Archbishop Chaput should respect Justice Scalia’s prudential judgment. And judging by the picture you posted, you favor the death penalty in one case. This is not to say that Justice Scalia would agree with you, but now you have a chance to show some filial respect to Fr. Carr. Unless, of course, you prefer to appear “patently...”—well, you fill in the blank.
