You’re lucky.
My Dad died when he was 64.
I was 17.
I miss my Dad, daily.

Sure, that raises eyebrows if you're from small-town flyover country
(as I am, from north-central Oklahoma).
And at the same time, if you've spent a decade or so in a foreign land
(as I did in West Los Angeles)...
you might consider that this might be a RELATIVELY-decent fellow
that underwent matrimony to a younger lady...and was trying to
be a decent influence in the life of a teen male.
I'm not preaching.
But after years in West LA and Santa Monica, you do start to see
some virtues when folks "step-up" and try to maintain at least
the semblance of a "family".
And I hate to think it...
but in Post-Modern, Post-Christian UK (and LA), the deceased gent
might be considered something of a "square".
That is a REALLY sad thought.

He would have been 50 at the birth of his son.
A young man who was about 23 worked for me. His father was in his mid 70s.
It happens.

Dudes 67 and has a teenage son? Some of us don't find our soul mate until late in life.

James Doohan or Scotty had two kids when he was eighty and I 'd like to say that sounds like a really bad idea
