Span: The length of the longest section of bridge over the river is 390 feet.
Vertical: The bottom of the bridge is 60.1 feet above the normal level of the river so a 60 foot tall boat can pass under it. The river is dammed up to keep it deep enough for barge traffic. The “Normal Pool Elevation” is the usual level of the water upstream of the dam.

To say an event does not "appear to be" terrorism is NOT to rule it out. HS is making a qualified statment, not a positive one.

Thanks... It seems like very concise, clear English to me too.

All construction workers that were on the bridge accounted for except for one.

I don’t necessarily buy the construction thing, the heat thing, and the one lane thing.
1. Bridge work was being done on the deck on top of the bridge. The actual supporting structure was not being worked on.
2. The traffic was moving slowly. One lane worth to boot. Therefore there was less compression from fast moving traffic. The slower the traffic the less the bridge deck bows and shakes.
3. These bridges should be fine in the heat. It is hot, but not that hot.
FWIW

Not good.

It's neither good or bad. It's just the way of things.

Among the first bridge designs was the stone arch. Take out only one stone and it collapses.

Fox just said there were 2 school buses.

Are the kids safe from both buses? Being a parent of a child on one of those buses would be nightmarish about now.

Here is a report from 2004 showing cracks on that particular bridge, if I’m reading the report properly.

http://www.dot.state.mn.us/const/tools/documents/completereport.pdf

Look at the photo on Figure 10, page 9 of the report (page 12 in my Adobe Reader). It’s a photo from 2004 showing cracks in the I35 bridge in St Paul. I’m assuming it’s the same bridge as this one that fell today.
