They make that threat every day. Was there anything specific about a bridge collapse?
all of those except the WTC pale in comparison to the Johnstown Flood disaster of 1880 which killed more than 2,200 people.

I don’t know. This is just devastating.
I just got a call from my mom. My nieces are in town visiting their dad, and they were on that bridge this afternoon.
I am just shocked. And relieved. And sad.
Every day you wake up is a good day. After that, it’s a combination of your choices and fate.
I prefer a ten-part mini-series, but you’re right. Most people want to wrap it up in the first hour, and move on to other exciting stories. Instant, total gratification.

The quicker they are to say that it was not terrorism (when they clearly haven’t had enough time to investigate) the less likely I am to believe them.
Are you talking about the Scoharie (sp) bridge collapse? My hubby drilled there to see why it happened.

My 1948 Harley has steel pistons. They are regularly subjected to the temperatures associated with burning gasoline. (above 90) They are still running after 59 years.
Steel isn’t human. It doesn’t mind hot weather.
Mental note to self: don’t go to LA.

Thank you for the great explanation. That was beneficial to me. I’m tired of reading all the other posts about all the other possibilities, so I thought I would try to get true data on the bridge, depth, etc.

Prayers for the people of Minnesota and specifically, Minneapolis. God rest the souls of the ones who lost their lives. Prayers that the injured will recover and that no one else is injured.
This is truly a tragedy for all of us.
Again, though, I was not speaking about a bridge failing because of a 90+F heatwave. I was talking about that kind of heatwave combining with other defects to precipitate a failure.
I thought complex systems fail because of a combination of smaller factors which individually could not cause catastrophe alone.
Amen for you. I pray for those that were on that bridge and for there families. :-(
