I have no idea if this has anything to do with it, but I was waiting for Rush to come on and heard the Fox radio news at the top of the hour. They said that they were in a “recovery” mode, not a “rescue” mode, but they also said that since the cause hadn’t been nailed down, they were treating the area as a crime scene. If that’s the case, that might slow up things. Like I said, no verification from any other source, just what I heard on Fox radio news.

I just watched KARE-11 flying around the scene, and the near side of this security cam is twisted and offset from the support pylons; the far side shows no offset.

Here is the security cam from LiveLeak ^ that is the same as the one I watched. (It will open in a new window).

I agree with wasted funds and pet projects. I am only pointing out that virtually all fiscally conservative adults in the state of MN are angered by the light rail waste. I would literally put it on the top of our local gov. pork list (right next to the baseball stadium they just bought the twins against the publics wishes). Our local radio hosts have pointed out that yes, buses are a waste, but the light rail is leaps and bounds more wasteful. I have to get back to work, best of luck to ya!

Crime scene does not have to mean terrorist. It could be they are looking for shoddy building materials, etc.

Someone is going to be held accountable.

You’re probably right about the pork; you’d know more than I do about the situation. It’s definitely true if they put in some stupid plan that doesn’t really reach out to all people (e.g.: Baltimore).

I’m really sick of the stadium builds (it is a revenue-generator, but still - it’s a damned sport). Are you saying people as a whole really didn’t want to pay for the stadium? That doesn’t seem to be the case anywhere - everyone is all hot to have their sport team have anything it wants!

I'm doubting that after watching them at lunch.

They were discussing whether people should avoid all the bridges in this country now. Seems they have a whole crew of chicken littles!

Crime scene does not have to mean terrorist

And I made no indication in my post that it did. I was just parroting what Fox radio said as the possible explanation for the "slow" going.

I’m going over the I80 bridge this afternoon, probably at a higher speed than usual....

The engineering reports noted cracks in the steel.

How can cracks in steel beams be ignored? I went to engineering school, and I remember cracks being a veeeery bad thing.

I was just repeating laments of Minnisotans earlier in the thread about money spent on light rail.

In Kansas City, we have those pushing for it as well and it will be a useless boondoggle and polital bone to urban dwellers. Usless in a non-geogaphically locked community.

Leftists hate sprawl, because it (1) limits their large city government control and (2) works against forcing people into leftist rabbit warrens.

If you want it, by all means vote for it and pay the BMW cost per user. I do hate seeing federal dollars from all taxpayers nationally go into that crap.

Minnesota has been fighting the politicians for over 10 years on the stadium issue. Public opinion is overwhelmingly against the stadium. Liberals, moderates and us right wingers were all against it (everyone except the die hard twins fans and Polad the owner)

But they finally pushed it through last year. Oh well. Take care! I really have to get back to work;-)

Not worth risking the life of divers in a recovery attempt. I just wonder if some of those cars were washed downriver? Is that possible? Anybody know?

What he said is EXACTLY true. Politicians like to build bigger and bigger NEW bridges, but NONE of them want to spend enough money on maintenance. No opportunities for photo ops there.

The pictures were out there on a conservative site.

Free Republic.

I will search to see if I can find them.
