Couple welcomes 17th child — and wants more

LITTLE ROCK - An Arkansas couple had a baby daughter Thursday — their 17th child and seventh girl — and the pair say they're still not ready to give it a rest.

Jennifer Danielle was born at 10:01 a.m. at a hospital in Rogers, Arkansas, Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar said in an interview.

"We'd love to have more," Michelle said, referring to baby girls. "We love the ruffles and lace."

Jennifer joins the fast-growing Duggar brood, who live in a 7,000-square-foot (650-square-meter) home in Tontitown. All the children — whose names start with the letter J — are taught at home.

The oldest is 19 and the youngest, before Jennifer, is almost 2 years old.

"We are just so grateful to God for another gift from him," said Jim Bob Duggar, a former state representative. "We are just so thankful to him that everything went just very well."

Jennifer joins siblings: Joshua, 19; John David, 17; Janna, 17; Jill, 16; Jessa, 14; Jinger, 13; Joseph, 12; Josiah, 11; Joy-Anna, 9; Jedidiah, 8; Jeremiah, 8; Jason 7; James 6; Justin, 4; Jackson, 3; Johannah, almost 2.

Michelle Duggar said she started feeling contractions Wednesday night and went to the hospital at about 5 a.m. Thursday.

Our admin assistant woman here at work pointed this news out to me awhile ago! That’s a LOT of kids! We know folks with 10 to 12. Happy Friday buddy. :-) The folks in the article sound like they’re doing a good job to me! :-)

My point was that if they are receiving public assistance, then it’s the public’s business. If this is a private matter (i.e., the parents support their family), the original poster should mind his/her own business.

If we were in public school we would receive some of those services, but we placed our daughter in private school.

The private services that we pay for have been much better than the services we have ever received from the govt.

We did get free speech from the Scottish Rite foundation that was awesome! However, they are a non-profit organization. Once again, the feds or state were not involved.

Saw them building a steel house on cable. It’s a bit strange.

I think Discovery Channel helped them out just a wee bit so the new house wouldn’t look like a quadruple wide trailer. The J names is a bit strange but I guess they don’t want to forget anyone :D

The kids helped build the house. How’s that for being overworked!

Didn’t John and Charles Wesley come from a family of 23 children?

I understand. I was just emphasizing the fact that it’s the government that’s the real problem, not individual beneficiaries of any particular program. Poor people are not (as a rule :-) going to show up at your door with a gun and demand that you feed, clothe, house, and educate them. The government does that.

Teen 'creativity and expression' happens.

I discovered this when the swamp arrived. The blue hair is temporary - I said she could have any goofball color she wanted, as long as it washes out before Christmas.

I hope (send the flames my way) that the Duggars would allow one of the 'Js' there the option of 'creative hair color choice' or bat earrings...etc.

No flames from me. I admire their diligence and discipline, and they all seem to be happy, but there's more than one way to run a successful family, even with many children. Some have identical clothing and play musical instruments, and some have swamp critters.

Yeah, men just hate it when there are consequences to their actions. Stick your cigar in an ice cube tray, why don’tcha?
