PHELPS FAMILY TO PROTEST FUNERALS OF VICTIMS OF THE MN 35W BRIDGE COLLAPSE

Posted on 08/05/2007 11:18:36 AM PDT by Brynn2007

I am writing about an issue that concerns me greatly. I reside in Southern MN and, like everyone in this area, was shocked and saddened by the recent tragedy that has occurred in Minneapolis. The Phelps Family of the Westboro Baptist Church (or "WBC") in Topeka, KS, the same who picketed funerals of fallen soldiers back from Iraq, plans to picket the funerals of the victims of the bridge collapse. I am severely outraged at this disrespectful display of hate, and I am certain that others would feel the same way were they to know of these plans. I am telling you this in hopes that this will be made public, and that others will be inspired to take legal and respectful action to deter any additional trauma to the families of these victims. Below is a link where you may find the flier that advertises the intentions of the "WBC" to protest and preach at the funerals of these innocent people.

In his early years, Fred Phelps senior, who's an attorney (now disbarred) as well as a self-styled pastor, used to do a lot of pro bono civil rights work in Kansas. That got him face time with a lot of liberal politicians. That was, of course, before he went completely f-ing nuts.

I agree. I'm curious where they get the funding to travel as much as they do

The senior members of the family are almost all attorneys. They make a lot of their money by suing people who "infringe on their First Amendment rights," and suing people who physically attack them.

Isn’t Minnesota a very liberal state? The Phelps AntiChrist-ian family may have jumped the shark with the Left with this little stunt!

They jumped the shark with everyone years ago. Haven't you heard their song "God Hates the World"?

Oh he's nuts alright.

I like how some liberals try to deny he's a lib/dem. As if he'd have held a fundraiser for Al Gore if he weren't!

What in the world is their reason for this idiotic protest?

We have personally witnessed other pastors (so-called) and their churches try to imitate Phelps, and it destroyed those churches and any effective ministry those churches might have had. They are beyond the pale; beyond any Scriptural reasoning whatsoever.

I do believe it is proper to ask the Lord to utterly hinder their activities, and one would be praying in the will of God. To specify any desired judgment upon them is actually to be guilty of Phelps’ own tactic, the mis-applied use of imprecatory prayer.

Whatever you could ask as a specific measure of judgment would be something no greater than all of us deserve under God’s wrath—the consequence of His inestimable Holiness. But for God sparing not His own Son and placing That righteous and sinless Son in the way of His judgment on sinners, all of us would receive His sorest unfathomable judgments. Christ took the wrath of God for sinners, and we live so long and well that we forget the Work of the Cross and wonder if we are correct to pray God’s judgments upon others.

I am afraid to pray judgments upon Phelps or upon any other man, as Christ had to suffer the wrath of God even for Phelps’ sins. But I have been praying for God to hinder the activities of others who learned from Phelps, and I am praying for God to obstruct Phelps as well, in whatever way suits His will and exalts Christ.

the phelps family has 10-11 lawyers and they get their funding from suing people who attempt to stop them and/or use physical violence to harass them. it’s best just to ignore them.

I’ll Join you in that Prayer.

Just as we can bind demons through the Blood of Jesus, we can bind evil people.

And of course we can trust that in the end, these people that blaspheme the Name of Jesus will get their just and eternal rewards.

Can you tell my why they are protesting the victims from the bridge?

Because there will be cameras there, and it will outrage people. Their world-view really doesn't get any more sophisticated than that.

Well, maybe so, but it saved the Amish from having to deal with these crazies after all those children died. But on the other hand, if you give them some rope, they’ll hang themselves. People will REALLY hear what they’re all about.

These guys are just awesome in my book. After I posted I recalled as I read more that I had heard their name before. We need more Americans like the people in this group.
