PHELPS FAMILY TO PROTEST FUNERALS OF VICTIMS OF THE MN 35W BRIDGE COLLAPSE

Posted on 08/05/2007 11:18:36 AM PDT by Brynn2007

I am writing about an issue that concerns me greatly. I reside in Southern MN and, like everyone in this area, was shocked and saddened by the recent tragedy that has occurred in Minneapolis. The Phelps Family of the Westboro Baptist Church (or "WBC") in Topeka, KS, the same who picketed funerals of fallen soldiers back from Iraq, plans to picket the funerals of the victims of the bridge collapse. I am severely outraged at this disrespectful display of hate, and I am certain that others would feel the same way were they to know of these plans. I am telling you this in hopes that this will be made public, and that others will be inspired to take legal and respectful action to deter any additional trauma to the families of these victims. Below is a link where you may find the flier that advertises the intentions of the "WBC" to protest and preach at the funerals of these innocent people.

That sounds like a story I've heard about New York's Mayor LaGuardia back during the Depression. One night a week, he would go down to one of the smaller courts and preside over the cases for that evening.

One week, he had a case where a young widow had stolen a loaf of bread and the shopowner was pressing charges. LaGuardia looks at the woman and asks if she was guilty of doing this and she admits that she had, explaining that her husband is dead, she's been laid off from her job, and her children are starving.

LaGuardia looks over at the shopowner and asks him if he is determined to press the charges and the irate man insists that "these people" be taught a lesson.

LaGuardia leans back in his chair and tells the woman that he is finding her guilty and that the punishment is a five dollar fine. He then pulls out his wallet, removes a five dollar bill, and hands it to the bailiff, explaining that he is going to pay her fine.

He then looks around the courtroom, which is packed with dozens of lawyers, defendants, plaintiffs, and assorted other individuals, and states that he is also going to fine everyone in that courtroom five dollars for the fact that their city and society are so messed up that this young woman is forced to steal to feed her family.

He then hands another five dollar bill to the bailiff, who then walks around the courtroom and collects five dollars from everyone, including the red-faced shopowner, and then presents the stack of money to the astonished widow. LaGuardia then informs her to stop by his office the next day, for he is in need of a new secretary.

The entire courtroom then gave Mayor LaGuardia a standing ovation.

“I think so....but God has his own plan for these morons, so I am placing all my faith in Him.”

God helps those who help themselves.

I say we go beat ‘em like Bongos!

I can understand the Phelps morons thoughts as to why they are picketing the funerals of dead GIs(don’t agree by a mile, but comprehend their stupidity)but I don’t get this one at all.
Have they explained their “rationale” behind this act?

Those dirt bags threatened to show up here for some military funerals. Rolling Thunder and others of the “evil” biker ilk let it be known that their presence would not be welcome. I think the Sheriff in PA kept them a good distance from the Amish kid funeral. I was not in country at that time or I would of done bodily harm on them for that one - the Amish do not want nor will they accept violence on their behalf - but......

If the Phelps clan showed up at my dead relative’s funeral, I and my family would beat them to death. Should have been done a long time ago. In a more civilized era of this nation, Fred Phelps would have been in the ground years before this.

Because they’re all nuts and they like the media attention they get when they do this sort of thing, like when the Amish kids got killed in PA. They were given time on someone’s radio show if they promised not to protest these innocent children. They are truly HATERS.

What is the reasoning behind this?

Nutjobs don't do "reasoning".

They didn’t go to the Amish funerals. Some radio guy, wish I could remember his name, gave them a big chunk of time on his radio show just so they wouldn’t. They accepted.

The Phelps Family of the Westboro Baptist Church

They seem to be in some sort of a self perceived contest to be more hated than Osama, have more press coverage than Paris, and be seen as less intelligent than Cindy. From that perspective, they are doing pretty well.

That was the worst thing that could have been done. The best method to reinforce a behavior in lab rats is to give them intermittent positive reinforcement.

The "Fighting Words Doctrine" mixed in with "Jury Nullification" should be enough to deal with Phelps. That would be negative reinforcement.

LOL, I think so but it wouldn’t hurt for you to throw a prayer out there that God heal their possession from evil.
