A mine collapse in Emery County may have trapped six miners inside the Genwal Mine near Huntington Caynon. The Emery County Sheriff's Office says the six miners are unaccounted for and emergency workers are currently trying to free the miners.
County officials say they do not know what caused the cave in at the mine.
After I posted I found out this IS a room and pillar operation. No longwall. They are pulling pillars which is like ringing the door bell as a kid and running like hell!
Prayers for these diggers.
Prayers up! Hopefully they walk out with their dinner bucket.
They were pulling pillars. No longwall, yes pulling pillars causes the top to come down. If it is on top of a fault it could be possible.
By the way, screw Bob Murray. He runs all out with no regards to employees.
A complete ass.
No wall, pulling pillars.
Heard on FNC this AM that none of the families spoke “english”.........the mayor of the small ville near the mine where workers live had to make a praying symbol and place her hand over her heart to let them know she was praying etc for their folks.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.........
The same news sources that “lay claim” to compassion in coverage of mining disasters are the same slanted news sources that have campaigned vigorously to make strip mining a dirty word.
How many lives would have been spared if strip mining was the way in which coal and ore are extracted?
Because there were only 6 men on section I was thinking that it might have been a maintenance crew. If they were pulling pillars they wouldn't need a full crew.
FWIW, the crew was 10 men, 4 escaped. I read last night that there are usually 12 on per shift.
Mine owner is giving a presser and saying, adamantly, that the cause was an earthquake.
He says he has proof it was an earthquake and not something associated with the mine.
He also says that, if the miners are dead, it was due to the compression of the earthquake.
Do you know if that’s (10) the total that were below ground when this happended?
he knows they’re dead and he’s desperate to “prove” it’s an act of god. I feel sorry for this old man. Not nearly as sorry as I feel for the miners and their families of course, but here is a man on TV dying before our eyes...
I feel sorry for him too ..
At first I didn’t - but he’s so close to losing it.
Someone should get him to hush and leave it at that..
He is sure selling his company...hell, he’s getting MILLIONS of dollars in FREE advertising.
FWIW...
U of U Seismograph Stations Research: ROCK BURSTS AND MINING TREMORS Earthquakes? in Mining Regions
He’s rambling.
He is calling out the AP....LOL!
And Fox News....
and denouncing people they interviewed as liars...
