NEW YORK - A United Nations employee was arrested Monday on charges that he and two others used U.N. stationery in a visa fraud scheme, prosecutors said.
Vyacheslav Manokhin, a U.N. employee based in Manhattan, was accused of helping numerous non-U.S. citizens enter the country illegally by providing fraudulent documents so they could obtain visas to attend conferences that either did not exist or which they did not attend.
The charges in the scheme, which prosecutors said began in April 2005 and was continuing, were outlined in a criminal complaint filed in U.S. District Court in Manhattan.
Manokhin, 45, was scheduled to appear in court later Monday. The Greenwich, Conn., resident is a Russian citizen.
He was charged with conspiracy to commit fraud with regard to immigration documents, which carries a maximum punishment of five years in prison.
According to court documents, Manokhin used his U.N. position to make it appear as though the U.N. supported the visa applications so that aliens could enter the United States to attend conferences organized by non-government organizations or the United Nations itself.
In most instances, prosecutors said, the alien was successful in obtaining a visa. Robert Sikorski, a lawyer for Manokhin, did not return a telephone message for comment.
Get the wrecking ball busy. Don’t wait for an evacuation either.
We need to bomb the UN for undermining our nations security. The wrecking ball gives them too much of an early warning.
providing equal opportunity jobs for criminals
Lock the front doors and let them breathe asbestos.
I agree. Do it today.
We have more than enough evidence to support that statement.
Death to the un.
The Unpunished Nazis strike again!
Watch this yoyo claim Diplomatic Immunity
Why couldn’t the UN have been a target on 9/ll?
Nevermind, I keep forgetting whose side they’re really on....
Yep, the UN, by their actions and wishes, join the terrorists in chanting: Death To America!
LOL, I hear ya. Both of us would be inclined to jest that way, but neither of us would truly like them to be targets like that. Still, I’d actually contribute for one-way tickets for the whole lot of them to go home.
I'd trade every foreign agent in that UN building for those few brave Americans on Flight 93.
Ping for more good news about the UN........../S
I don’t think you would AuntB. I loathe the UN and the miscreants that run it, but I wouldn’t wish that death on anyone. I would wish Flight 93 had not taken place and that nobody had died.
Then I would wish the UN gone from our soil, the US never to participate or offer up one dime of support every again.
Summits should be held, but setting up a world government at any level is a bad idea. It robs states of sovereignty. Individual nations need to have flexibility in determining their own fates.
The UN — such a good idea —— such a failed idea.
You’re so right. It it could be kept to a debating society, I think it woud be useful. What it has grown into today reveals why it is such a bad idea. In fact it just makes most issues worse today at least IMO.
We support terrorism every time our government takes our hard earned tax dollars and gives it to the un. We're footing the bill to our own possible downfall.
Almost the same theme! Great minds............:)
