Hurricane warnings have been issued for Dominica and St. Lucia as Hurricane Dean races westward into the Caribbean Sea at 24mph. This motion should bring the center of Dean near the Lesser Antilles on Friday. The increased forward speed of the storm has lessened preparation time for Caribbean Islands in its path. Hurricane Dean has favorable conditions to develop into a major hurricane over the next several days.

Since I am in a mandatory evac zone on the water, I’ve lost some prepaid hotel reservations a few times over the years. It would seem so much easier to keep the hurricane gear in an RV, and toss the cats and their litter boxes in there when necessary. It’s so hard to find hotels that allow pets. As well, the extended family has taken to renting RVs for camping over the Thanksgiving holidays. We certainly have room on the property for an RV.

By basement I mean RV basement, which is what we call the HUGE storage area we have in ours.
We have no basement in our home.
Are you the one who was in Bacliff or somewhere around the Shrimp Hut or thereabouts? Last one left in your town for Rita? I remember sweating somebody out down there.
Oh, sorry - I was back-reading and hadn’t gotten to this post of yours before I posted my previous question - and I *almost* asked if it was San Leon, but thought I was imagining things, lol.
A friend of mine in Corpus just told me he was thinking about renting an RV for a few days and driving it out to Bandara. I tried to talk him out of it. An RV, even in Bandara is no match for Dean.

After reading the experts I am not to worried about Dean, sounds like she is going to be well south of here when she makes land fall.

Well, that Friday night that Rita was coming in was the day that I finally signed up here on FR, after lurking for several years. It was a rough night, but I stayed through it, here in Nederland. Took care of my grandmother, who was just out of the hospital. She’s still kicking, two years later, and at age 93. She was so zonked out on medications that night, she didn’t have any idea a massive hurricane was hitting. The house was positively pulsating with those winds, and trees were going down left and right.
At 90 miles inland the most we’ve been out of power has been 48 hours
We had been considering waiting it out in the Hill Country except.....Somebody remarked yesterday that Bandera got 15 inches of rain Thurs. I’m not sure of the reliability of that statement but I believe I did hear on TV that San Antone got 10 inches.
Lots of flash flooding already I’d think, not even considering what Dean may do.
Maybe Dean’s headed for that ‘place’ we were talking about in Tamaulipas?
Oh, I’m not worried, either. *famous last words* I’m just in suburban Houston and, since Rita, we’ve been told by the authorities NOT to evac, come hell or high water.
Bandera is all about low water crossings, too. The creek *already* goes over the road!
LOL, yes it does! I love the Hill Country but can easily see where it would turn mighty dangerous real quick with downpours.
