Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio has a message for critics behind a doctored photo that shows him in a Ku Klux Klan outfit holding a noose around a Hispanic man: "you're not going to get rid of me."

"The more they complain, the more I'm going to enforce the law," Arpaio told FOXNews.com.

He’s worse than that - he’s a grandstander. His idea of being “tough on crime” is to make misdemeanor offenders and people jailed awaiting trial wear pink underwear and eat bologna sandwiches.

Grandstanders are very popular with voters who get all their news from ten-second sound bites. And there are far too many of those voters.

My take is that those in county jails are there as more minor offenders and have a better chance at being redeemed as a citizen. So doing something a bit different, like Sheriff Arpaio is, is worth a shot.
