Senator Thompson thrilled me when he said in Iowa “I will not apologize for America” or something like that. There will never be another President Reagan, but there can be a President Thompson.

Also: Both had radio shows, both were urged to run by others, both had TV shows, both were masculine men, both were divorced once, both had no great love for Hollywood, etc...

People knew where Reagan was coming from when he started running for President. They knew exactly what he believed and why. And they could see Reagan's skills as a communicator from the beginning. It's harder to say that about Fred (Reagan also had had administrative experience as Governor of the largest state).

It's commonplace to see Reagan as an actor, and he was that, but his evolving role as a "spokesman" involved more than that. If Fred had more of that kind of experience -- not playing a role, but communicating a message -- people would feel more comfortable with him now.

Reagan like style of dress, mannerism, abiltiy to articulate, cheerful postive countenance, optimism, wit, and executive experience all go to Mitt Romney. Fred is not like Reagan regarding ANY of those characteristics.

Fred and Reagan both worked in Hollywood and both are/were conservative. That's about it except all three have mass appeal.

He's no Reagan," said John Kares Smith, a professor of communications at the State University of New York, an expert in presidential and political communication and a devotee of Thompson's television show.

OK, for me his credentials say it all.

"Ronald Reagan had an ability and a real underestimated skill of being able to touch very deep-held American myths and beliefs," Smith said. "When he would talk about the city on the hill, he really could resonate with our Puritan past. Fred Thompson, I don't think he has any of those skills at all."

What the heck are "very deeply-held American "myths"! And what is the "Puritan past" dig. As if there is anything Puritan about our present.

If they can't beat him on the issues, they will compare him to Reagan and say he doesn't measure up. Who does?

These people are scared!

“Many Compare Fred Thompson to Reagan”

In a related story: “new study has determined that “many” are shallow thinkers”

FredT isn't one of the many.

Now, if your a Romney supporter or Mitt himself, things are definitely Reagan-like. Romney was adamantly pro-choice for 30+ years, just like his hero. Go ahead, ask him.

GO FRed GO!

Reagan was out of acting long before he became president. No matter how good Fred might make people feel, it bothers me that he is an actor so recently, as matter of a fact, as I write this. I think it’s a weakness, where with Reagan it wasn’t, because it was only something that he used to do. That’s a big difference right there. With Thompson, it would be very easy to exploit this fact. With Reagan, they were just grabbing at straws, because it was part of his distant past. I don’t like it that Fred went back to acting after he got out of politics. It’s a red flag to me.

But is Fred Thompson truly Reaganesque?

He reminds me more of Sean Connery than Ronald Reagan! :0)

Anyone here actually think that Reagan then could compare to Reagan as we see him now? LOL

There will never be another Reagan, or Lincoln or Washington, or JFK, or please God, Devil or Sun another Clinton! LOL

I believe Fred will slay the Hildabeast, and strengthen conservatism.

I remember Fred bailing on the conservative party. When he had a chance to stand up to the Clintons he chose instead to walk away. He caved and his voting record along with a lack of cajones backs it up.

The comparason could be apt. He does have Reagan’s charisma. Hopefully, if elected, he’ll also have Reagan’s vision.

Why I feel that Fred Thompson is the only one in the bunch that can revive that old-time religion of genuine Reagan-like conservatism. Its his remarkable ability to communicate, honestly and openly and with such flair.

A major irritation of the Republican base has been Bush’s trouble articulating. Given a prepared speech he can deliver it with the best of them, but slap a microphone in front of him like at a press conference and we Republicans cringe. His sloppy speaking style only serves to bolster the perception of his incompetence. That is why the most important but least discussed asset we are looking for in a candidate is the ability to communicate, and Fred Thompson seems to be what we the Republicans are yearning for.

We need to not just get a victory in 2008, but we need to look beyond Bush and focus on the long term vision of the Conservative movement. Each of the candidates running have good attributes, and maybe just maybe a few of them have what it takes to beat Hillary, but where will they take the party?
Is this just about beating Hillary? Yea, we get some sweet revenge, but we could also get four years of more of the same politics as usual in D.C. . Or is this about a rediscovery of our values and our common sense as a Nation, and the resurgence of national pride? We need the President to be the “Nations President” once again.

It’s been written not long after the mess in Florida with the hanging chads, that to half the Nation, President Bush was their President, but to the other half he was not President at all. We can as Americans no longer afford to have that sort of a divide between our people.

Ronald Reagan said he left the entertainment world for politics because he wanted to protect something precious. Well the office of President is something precious and the respect for it should be preserved. The President once again needs to be “Our President”, weather you voted for him or not. Out of all the potential presidential candidates, Fred Thompson is the one that can unite us and move us forward to better things.

In President Reagan’s Farewell Address he said, “I wasn’t a great communicator, but I communicated great things.” Fred Thompson is a communicator of great things and I am honored to be behind him.
