INDIANAPOLIS, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Many of the estimated 4,000 to 10,000 Liberians living in the United States on temporary protected status may be forced to return home as early as Oct. 1.
Thousands of Liberians who could not qualify for refugee status or permanent green cards in the United States were granted six to 18 month stays in the country under a program designed to offer temporary sanctuary to foreign citizens fleeing wars or natural disasters. However, the long-running Liberian civil war, which claimed 250,000 lives, ended in 2003, and now the U.S. government is moving to force some of the Liberians who were granted numerous renewals for their temporary sanctuary to return home, the Indianapolis Star reported Tuesday.
Some Liberians in danger of being sent home say that while the war has ended, the country remains a perilous place -- the average life expectancy in Liberia is only 39 years. Additionally, the unemployment rate in Liberia is 85 percent and 80 percent of the country's people live in poverty.
"People can't go back," said Trocon Karmo, president of the Liberian Association in Indiana. "The country's not ready to accept them. There are no jobs available right now. There are no social services."
Was she a Unitarian?............
They should throw the book at you.

"I love it when you do that."
I think the wage earners in this nation should call their Congressmen and demand all citizens of the world be allowed to come here.
Then, after this is accomplished, we could go find some vacant land and start over with the founder's principles firmly in tact.

Too funny. I just finished reading the article on Mike Rogers outing Republicans. I read it as “librarians outed”.
Of course they’ll make these poor saps leave, who might actually have a legitimate claim, i.e., covered under our law (”asylum” or “refugee” status), but Jose Maria Conchita Alonso Reyes La Reconquista gets to stay even though he came here illegally and has no such claim.
Interestingly, I actually know of a family who fled Liberia and one of the local churches (WA state) in our denomination has assisted them in their flight from some seriously ugly bloodletting.
But it’s OK to deport THEM.
Hmm.
I just keep forgetting that Mexicans have an inherent RIGHT to come to the US ILLEGALLY whenever they please.
Ahh...I get it...
4,000 to 10,000 libertarians sent away? That’s all of them isn’t it. ;-)
If it’s okay for one family to come here under those circumstances, then you must think that it would be a good idea to pull up a ship off Liberea’s coast and load up all Liberians, and bring them here. If the excuse is good for one, it’s good for all. Well, I don’t.
The United States isn’t the rescue mission for the rest of the planet. I don’t like what takes place in other nations, but we simply cannot bring everyone here.
As for illegal aliens, you haven’t read many of my posts.
Yeah, they're the ones with the mule and 40 acres................

“Where would we put all the tubes?”
I think he did that so he could keep up a monogrammed “Hers” towel in his bathroom without controversy.
I'm betting no more than 10%...400 to 1000 max!! If Hillary gets in....fewer than that!
The ones that come here are usually the brightest, hardest working, politically aware and best off of the population - in other words - the ones with the most to fight for.
So we become the relief valve for the despot trying to exert control...the ones likely to thwart his plans flee to the U.S. and the pressure on him dwindles.
Everybodys happy in the PC world don't you know.
When one of these despots shows up, it would be nice to target one JDAM on them and foget aboud it...
IIRC, she was a Lutheran lesbian libertarian librarian.
Did she win the lotto?..........
Her lover, Laverne, got lucky on the lottery, but Laura the librarian lost.
