Preview and Analysis for Weekend of September 8th and 9th, 2007

There's really only one major topic this week, the Petraeus report and related commentary, competing reports and just plain propaganda (now called "spin").  They do touch on Fred Thompson (too old and too late) and Larry Craig (he wouldn't be in the news if that SOB Hsu had just disappeared as he was supposed or at least died on that stupid train... but nooooo!).  No, this week the shows are all about preemptive condemnation and creative misinterpretation of the Petraeus report.

The task of discrediting the Petraeus report for the Dhimmicrats is harder than it looked like it would be when they took off for their month long August recess (which is a "good recess" and not to be confused with the month long Iraqi Parliament August recess, which is a "bad recess"... got that?).  During August there was a constant stream of positive news stories from Iraq, not the least of which were coming from Dhimmicrats who went over to see things for themselves.  In fact, the surge has been so universally hailed as a success that the Dhimmicrats had to scramble and invent an alternate narrative with which to declare defeat.  Therefore the Congressionally mandated September interim report on progress towards achieving the Congressionally mandated benchmarks in Iraq (note the word "interim") has now become a "final report," where all is supposed to be accomplished completely.  And they've decided that they have to trash Petraeus to achieve their goals, as well.

I think that they're in for an Ollie North moment during the hearings this week.  Harry Reid had better try to find a large potted plant to hide behind if this weeks testimony turns out the way I think it will.

NBC Meet The Press concentrates on this past weeks competing Iraq report prepared by a so-called "independent commission" (yet another Congressional mandate, by the way) headed by retired Marine Commandant General James Jones.  Of all the news reports I linked to related to this the one from Hugh Hewitt's site is the one I think gives the best insight, pointing out how desperately the Dhimmicrats are spinning on this report, particularly as a preemptive strike against Petraeus.  They include another commission member, Charles Ramsey, former D.C. Police Chief, to give the purely Dhimmicrat version of Truth as it relates to Iraq.  I find it interesting that the week all of this comes out news reports also surface about a new, lucrative position for Ramsey.  Could the Dhimmicrat Illuminati be sending a not so subtle message of what Ramsey will gain if he's a "good boy" and what he will lose if he strays from the plantation?  To round out the Iraq spin Joe "Plugs" Biden is back from his eighth trip to the region to expound ... and expound ... and expound ... and expound ... and expound ... ad nauseum.

CBS Face The Nation offers up a grand poobah Dhimmicrat who opposes the war, Shamu Kennedy, and a RINO who opposes the war, Brent Scowcroft.  Wow, what balance!  Well, I guess Ol' Bob has to do something to counter Katie's gushing praise for the success of the surge while she was in country.  Brent is one of the proponents of the "realism" school of US foreign policy.  Of course, that means he was opposed to confronting the Soviets during the Reagan years, but that only endears him more to the drive by media.  And Teddy the Hut will blather on about how craven and dishonest this administration is, and the proof of their dishonesty is that they ordered the assassination of democratically elected President Diem in violation of American law... wait... ignore that last bit.  Wrong war, wrong family dynasty.

Fox News Sunday pits Lindsey Grahamnesty against Dianne "Josephine Keller" Feinstein (get it? like the war profiteer Joe Keller from Arthur Miller's All My Sons?  Oh, never mind...) in their version of the great Petraeus debate.  Of course, there will be nary a word about Dianne's criminal corruption in funneling massive defense contracts to the firm she and her husband had major interests in.  No mention of her having to resign from the relevant committee in order to get the whole thing swept under the rug.  Of course not.  She's a Dhimmicrat.  Let's talk about toe tapping in the men's room at the Minneapolis/St. Paul airport instead.  And the media continues to try to rehabilitate Lindsey Grahamnesty because he's one of the "good" Republicans (except on Iraq) and he's up for reelection this coming year.  This is the same treatment Hagel would be getting if it weren't obvious that he's bailing out due to the likelihood of a crushing defeat.  Lindsey still thinks he has a chance in South Carolina.  John Edwards thought the same thing.  On the topic of Iraq I find myself regretting Graham's being so grotesquely wrong on other issues as he is truly a stand up guy on the GWOT and specifically the Iraq front.  In fact, he served on active duty in Iraq during his reserve commitment this year.  I'd love to have him debating Plugs Biden instead of Dianne Feinstein on this issue.  To provide more depth to the show Fox adds Presidential Homeland Security advisor Fran Townsend, no doubt to wax hysteric (they hope) over the new Osama tape.  Personally I think the tape has more to do with Max Headroom than it does with Al Qaeda.  Rounding out the guests is the (apparently) last minute addition of Rudy's campaign manager.  What better way to take a shot at Fred?

CNN Late Edition brings in retired General George Joulwan to conduct a preemptive strike on General Petraeus.  They do balance that with the Iraqi National Security Adviser Mowaffak al-Rubaie, likely to complain about the complaints against his government and police.  Wolfie is likely ready to pounce on anything that can be spun as whining or "ungrateful."  To make my joy complete they then offer up Snarlin Arlen Specter (isn't he on trial for shooting somebody, maybe with a magic bullet?) and Barbara Boxer to "debate" whatever it is they're going to talk about.  Somehow I suspect that Specter will be more critical of Bush than Boxer will be, simply because she won't feel the need to jump ugly on Bush if Arlen's already doing it for her.   CNN then continues their drive to promote the least likely national candidates for the Republican presidential race, this time with the latest darling, Mike Huckabee.  And as a bonus he's on board for nationalized health care and a law to ban smoking nation wide.  Could Mike be competing for Hillary's VP on a unity ticket?  Nah.  Finally Fran Townsend makes her second appearance today by showing up with Wolfie and will likely disappoint with cautious but reasonable comments about UBLs "latest tape."

ABC This Week serves up John McCain and props up the Winter Soldier his own self, John F'n Kerry for (get this) a "Democratic response" to Senator McCain.  Since when do the Democrats get a "response" on one of these shows?  Have they ever offered up a specific "Republican response" (Arlen Specter and Chuck Hagel don't count)?  But then, what can you expect from Curious George?

The Saturday shows (two thirds long over as I type) are beginning to grow ever more irrelevant, with the exception of JER, of course.  I didn't even bother listing CNBC's Tim Russert Show as they haven't changed the lineup on their web site of the repeat on the "Yankee greats" show from several months ago.  The Beltway Boys regurgitated the DNC talking point issues of Thompson, Bill vs. Oprah and Larry Craig.  Regardless of their take on each topic they're still only talking about what the DNC wants them to talk about.  Fox News Watch follows suit with more "Fred is lazy" crap and then provides a few giggles by asking about "powerful journalists."  That's like talking about patriotic Democrats.  The two things just don't go together.  The Journal Editorial Report also jumps on the Fred phenomenon and likewise previews the upcoming Petraeus report.  The difference is that they'll usually provide some insight.

Mark well this weekends shows.  I hold them largely irrelevant, but I also point to them as ultimate proof of the decline and fall of the old media.  On the macro scale, events on a par with anything (let me repeat, anything) in the last several hundred years are going on right now across the planet.  These events will can very well determine how our species lives for the next millennium or more.  On the micro scale corruption of unprecedented proportions has repeatedly been found in those institutions and individuals held dear by the left.  And the drive by dinosaur media wants to talk about toe tapping in a men's room at Minneapolis/St. Paul airport.  Not a word about Hsu.  The only discussion of Osama's insane ranting is how they make Bush look bad, not how they show clear alignment between his satanic cult and the modern left, including our own Dhimmicrat party.  No, that would spoil the narrative.

Well, there's something they need to know about spoiled things.  Before long they begin to smell.  And after awhile even the most dense will be unable to ignore that smell.

This should be cross posted to my blog at Wizards.townhall.com later today. I have finally caught up over their and I hope to keep up to date from now on. In fact I'm going to change the format just a bit when posting this in light of the success of the technique I used to get caught up. This analysis will still be first but then I'm going to try putting all of the show by show posts into one big Post number 1. If I end up falling back to separate posts you'll know that I found an upper limit to the length of FR posts.

This thread exists primarily as a heads up for who is on the weekend talks shows, what they've been invited on to push (based on their recent pronouncements) and the spin (meme) the DBM is likely trying to push based on that information. All of this is prep work for the weekly Sunday Morning Talk Show thread posted by Alas Babylon!. Later than I have been this week, please forgive.  I've just completed three weeks of travel and then, today, I finally got a contact lens for the post transplant eye, so I've been somewhat limited (and will be tomorrow) as I work up to using this lens full time.  I'm thrilled to finally be at the beginning of this process after so many months, but it isn't fun, particularly the first few days.  The most ... interesting... thing is that the two eyes have radically different perspective on any given scene.  It seems that the nature of my condition makes one eye provide a somewhat magnified view of reality.  Balancing the vision from both eyes with that odd circumstance is proving to be fun! <g>

Be nice if the Congress one time would send someone over who actually understands Counter Insurgency instead of politically reliable mouthpieces like Jones.
