- I haven’t bought Time in years but happened to pick one up in a doctor’s office recently. Two things struck me. The publication has become an emaciated shadow of it’s former self, little more than a pamphlet and secondly they’re still flogging away at the leftist bilge that has gotten their circulation into trouble in the first place.
As someone famous once said of the Bourbon kings of France as to the reasons why they lost their heads during the French Revolution; “They have remembered nothing and forgotten nothing.”
That was one fast little ride.

The Ford Probe was supposed to be a Mustang too. Fortunately, Ford decided that, like the Mustang II, nothing good happens when you brand an sport import beater w/ the Mustang name.
The replacement for the Ford Mustang was based on a shortened verson of the Fairmount chassis, which has to be close to being on this list too.
Ahem. Don't lay that atrocity on Mopar's doorstep. The AMC Gremlin is on the list. Its longer but no more graceful Sibling, the Pacer, is another craptacular example of American car makers trying to get into the sub/compact business.
Mustang II will forever be known as Farah Fawcetts car in Charlie’s Angels. When ever I saw a motorhead in one, I would just laugh. It was a rebadged Pinto!

yes, they are idiots and have so sense of what the country was like when 50% of Americans lived/worked on farms ...the reliable old T was a godsend for many a family.
Its alot more fun talking about the bad beater cars w have had growing up. Ever notice that young kids all seem to have nice cars now.

The rise of GM that you described is precisely what brought the original success of the Model T: Ford merely elongated it through his price war. Meanwhile, the car grew old — and by comparison to the competition, bad. In 1908 it was a great, great car for the price. By the 1920s it was merely cheap.
Btw, WWI elongated the reign of the T. The 1919/20 depression that Woodrow Wilson manufactured killed off many auto makers, and helped Ford to consolidate his position. Had WWI not come along, the competition would have beaten down the T much earlier than 1926.

Don’t forget the 55 mph speed limit. That made GM think that it could sell us Chevettes. When the VW Rabbit came along, designed for autobahn speeds, we jumped on that car in droves. It’s my contention that every car designed during the 55 mph speed limit by American manufacturers was pretty much a lost cause.
1978 Plymouth Volare....article in Wall St Journal some years ago....and the ‘78 Volare was the worst.

My father’s ‘76 Volare had a 318 in it. While nowhere near as potent as previous Valiant variants w/ a 318 (Duster!), I still surprised a few Camaro owners with that little station wagon (forest green, luggage rack, white wall tires, etc).
