For those of us who DO remember the details, and who felt that the “authorities” allowed an innocent woman to be killed, your answer seems pretty evasive and unsatisfying.
The Schiavo matter is kind of a litmus test for a lot of us around here, and if you can’t pick a side in this one, you’re only starting to confirm my suspicions that you’re not really a conservative, just trying to play one on TV.

Few other things are as singularly unimportant for the next President to have studied and have an answer for.
Ah, the famous “litmus test.” So, he’s supposed to know those details because of your personal litmus test? Good luck. You’re bound to be disappointed be every candidate out there.

This is NOTHING to do with states rights. LIFE is a GOD GIVEN right guaranteed to ALL and it IS the ONLY DUTY of the Federal Government.
If any State or Local entity tries to violate that right it is the SWORN DUTY of the Congress and the President in their OATH to engage to protect life.
The REAL issue here is... and it is getting REALLLLLLLLLY obvious now.... Fred Thompson does NOT believe that the UNBORN or INFIRM are persons.
They are "vegitibles" or "Blood and Tissue".
JulieAnnie has the guts to say so to our face... and take his lumps.... Fred is DISINGENUOUS at best and an out right LIAR at the worst.

Couldn’t have said it better myself. Here, we had a situation where one of our citizens was tortured and murdered by court decree, and the government did little, beyond lip service, to stop it.
If I was commander-in-chief, I would have sent the friggin’ ARMY in there to stop this, and dared the powers-that-be to impeach me for it. To me, this was a moral turning point in our country - and our country went the wrong way.
I’ll support Fred Thompson, if he gets the nomination, but he’s already put me off by his “I’m too special to announce and debate with those other guys” attitude, and he’s put me off further with this lame “I don’t remember... what was that again?” answer.

Ahhhhh... Who do you support? Someone who’s a right as you are must be supporting the right candidate so I’m voting for him. Please don’t say Ronpaul.
