Yeah, I guess that’s true too. One of the reasons I have taught “survival classes” to folks going into Homeland Security, is to actually get them to think about the normal citizens, and what they can do themselves, rather than force us to “count on the government”. They all will tell you right up from that a “Policeman’s job is to protect you”. Until I point out that the fact is their job is to “investigate crime”. Then they understand suddenly, that a cop can’t be everywhere all the time.

The Sunni and Shi'a schism is highlighted by the difference in observance by Sunni and Shi'a Muslims. The violence is perpetrated by Sunni and Shi'a extremists. In countries that have significant populations of both sects, there is often violence during the holiday. Recently, Pakistan, India, Iraq and Afghanistan have all seen violence during this time. Such violence include self-cutting of the top of the head with knives so as to let blood flow over the face.
The 2004 (1425 AH) Shi'a pilgrimage to Karbala, the first since Saddam Hussein was removed from power in Iraq, was marred by bomb attacks, which killed and wounded hundreds despite tight security.
However, in the Muslim calendar, Ashura for 2007 came on January 29, and Ashura for 2008 will come on January 19. The number 19 certainly is significant to the jihadis.
So 10-10-2007 will not be Ashura. Will there be anything on 10-10? Who knows. I am starting to think this is just a mean prank to stir up a news story.

IIRC, part of instruction on filling out military paperwork (USMC in my case) included the admonition to cross a seven. First time I’d ever had to do that.
Yes, that’s definitely what it was...the only “new” twist was the Allah stuff at the end. The e-mail was definitely written by somebody whose native language was not English.
It also reminded me of that phone scam a few months ago, where stores were called by a supposed killer who told the employees they were being watched and they had to wire money somewhere abroad to prevent themselves from being killed. And some of them actually did it, including a WalMart store somewhere in the Northwest.
Ramadan in 2007 started on Thursday, the 13th of September and will continue for 30 days until Friday, the 12th of October.
